I apologize if this has been asked before, I tried the search function and scoped out about a half dozen pages and couldn't find what I was looking for.
Out of simple curiosity how do they (the proverbial "they") select all tournament teams? It's one of those things I feel club parents are not always privy to. I asked around this past weekend and the few parents I spoke with seemed unsure of the answer.
Are the players that are typically selected great performers? Do their coaches nominate them? Do college scouts have anything to do with the selection?
Thanks for any and all insight.

College scouts generally have nothing to do with their selection unless they were asked before the tourney to help out.

Thank you. So are selections made during or after the tournament? Obviously different tournaments have different procedures, but for club tournaments the coaches usually select their own players after their first match on the last day of play if they are in the gold bracket.

Thank you eazyI figured it was something like that because at times they post the selections at the tourney (at Energy this past Jan) and others they announce it after the fact (so it seems).

At Nationals, I was asked which players I wanted to nominate for all-tournament on the day before bracket play. There is usually some formula that the tournament uses to pick, but they still look at those nominated to make the final decision.

At AAU once you make the Championship Bracket they hand you a piece of paper before the start of every match you play in the top bracket that day and you pick a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd selection for your team.
A different annual tourney I used to coach in years ago they would have you nominate two players from your team and two players from the team you were competing against and you had to turn in your selection sheet when you signed the score book (when you still had to) after the completion of the match..

Some tournaments also bring in a couple people to watch and pick the all-tournament team. However, the most common method is saying the champion gets 3, runner up gets 2, etc then letting the coach of that team pick the players

They have a group of people walking around who review the players who have been selected by their coaches. It is very political though.

usav has a group of people who walk around and rate players from a list given to them. How you get on the list i do not know. But I do know 2 of these people that walk around. they always have usav shirts/jackets on.
