R2s all over the NCAA are feeling lonely now... Seriously. Or breathing s sigh of relief.

I am disappointed in him after his speech about staying. So much for that. Well, this puts him back on the West Coast. Isn't he married? I'm guessing his wife did not find Lincoln all that exciting versus SoCal. Anyway, this sounds like a decent opportunity. He might have stayed another one or two if something "nice" didn't come along.

Tyler should be very grateful to John Cook. Nebraska is running the best program in the NCAA right now.

Kristen was from Utah so maybe Lincoln wasn't that big of a deal.

She also travelled the world and is a self-proclaimed "Globe trotter" (via her instagram). Just because she wasn't "shocked" doesn't mean it was the best fit for her/them.

www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=211701760 Congratulations to Tyler. Clearly, John Cook had a knack for finding and developing not only volleyball players but also volleyball coaches. In addition to Hildebrand, the previous 2 assistants, Chris Tamas and Dani Bussboom Kelly also moved on to stellar results as head coaches. Tamas to Illinois and a Sweet Sixteen appearance, and Kelly at Louisville with a league championship and the NCAA playoffs. So if you're an AC looking for a spring board to a great HC position, looks like working for John Cook at Nebraska is the place to go. Like investment experts, no one mentions the failures. You succeed because of a combination of: 1. You're good (on our own), 2. You're lucky, 3. You land a sweet gig, e.g., Illinois. And it's not like Lousville is Pawtahanee Tech in Redneck, Mississippi, and most importantly, 4. You have great athletes and volleyball players on your team. Not because of great tutelage from Nebraska or John Cook. Pretty sure you know it's not a zero sum game. It's probably some combination of all of the above, plus 85 other factors.

He turned down overtures from other schools looking for a head coach, but this is a different and huge opportunity. Why do you think it's a "huge opportunity?" Certainly not the money. Because Tyler wasn't exactly secretive about his love for beach volleyball. Now he gets to create the USA beach program in his image. He's going to have a lot of latitude and little pressure of expectations. It's a high upside/low downside situation. From a family perspective, he'll also be on the road a lot less. My impression was that while he gave his best effort, recruiting wasn't something he particularly enjoyed. He's definitely a teacher at heart and all the ancillary business of being a coach at a big program was more of a necessary evil. Obviously, a lot of coaches feel that way, but to be successful at a place like Nebraska, you have to embrace all the things necessary outside of just teaching the game.

How is their “little pressure of expectations” for the USA beach program? It’s one of the most watched and most attended sport at every Olympics, and it’s the most visible and marketed discipline of our sport. Hasn’t the US won the men’s and/or women’s Olympic gold medal in every Games except Rio?

The casual fan doesn't care about beach volleyball except for a couple weeks every four years. Plus, Tyler's position isn't tied to revenue generation. People could say the same about Karch, but he's in absolutely no jeopardy of being replaced. USA could fail to medal at indoor at the Tokyo Olympics and Karch would still be the coach in 2024 if he wanted it.

Pretty sure that's not up for you to decide? Nope, being a mother will decide for her. I know mothers with young children who prioritize travelling internationally at least once a year, with or without their kid. Just because you become a mother, doesn't mean you have to give up your interests. Kristen has made numerous friends in her 10 years of playing overseas - when they sold their house on Instagram, she specifically called out the memory of hosting her Brazilian and Korean friends for Thanksgiving. I'm not saying this is definitely the primary reason but SoCal is 1) much easier to travel from and 2) much easier to travel to. She will also be much closer to her Stanford/USAV friends. I think it's pretty easy to guess which way she would vote (between beach job and AC job) if Tyler asked for her opinion.
