I think it comes down to simply whether the team wants to release their players in a lot of cases. Although China, being run as a top-down hierarchical system, the Chinese Volleyball Association, which Lang Ping now exerts a strong influence on, can decide and overrule the team in some cases, like Zhu Ting. Her original team, Henan, probably did not want her to go to Turkey, but Lang overruled the team and released her to Turkey because she thought this will help her develop more as a player. Yuan would definetly benefit and improve playing in a more competitive league. I think since she and other members of the Bayi Shenzen volleyball team are current members of the China's People's Liberation Army it wouldnt be possible for them to leave the country to play volleyball until after their active duties. Yeah, that is true in most cases...but not necessarily in all cases. Being an army team, they are technically part of the PLA, so yes, moving overseas will be more tricky compared than other teams. Still, with Lang Ping now calling the shots (she's not simply a coach now, but has a large say over volleyball management and programs in China overall), if Lang really saw someone from the army team who can improve and excel by going abroad, I am sure she can use her influence and connections to make that happen. I agree Yuan will improve with overseas experience, but probably not Lang Ping. She may think Yuan is good enough where she is and not on the level of Zhu anyway, so not really worth the effort to spend her social capital to wrestle Yuan away from the army team.

Li Yingying is certainly on the radar for them, but perhaps also examining whether older players (some of them ex-NT players), like Mi Yang, the Shanghai setter who used to be a former Tianjin and NT player, deserve a spot as well. Rumor has it she did not get on well with the former Tianjin coach, so she was released to play for Fujian, before finding her way to Shanghai now. Maybe she and other players are trying to show Lang and Lai they also deserve a spot (or second chance) on the NT.

Ball control is so good. China has some good young talent. Fun to see old national team stars still playing as well!

Wasn't able to find the article about Li yingying meeting with a volleyball scout from Turkey, but I was able to find the picture they took together. Turns out the scout is from Fenerbahce. Some reports say that he came to catch up and watch Kim Yeon Koung play, while others say he came to look at potential chinese players to go abroad. Of course Li Ying-ying comes to mind as the main athlete to focus on, but he may have also been looking at middle blocker Wang Yuan-yuan. Fenerbahce hasn't been all that great this season ever since coach Marcello Abbondanza and Kim left. The new addition players (Mia Jerkov and Polina Rahimova ) along with Natalia's injury that kept her out the season didn't help the club that much. There are also rumors that Rosamaria and Ognjenovic will join in Fenerbahce.

She of course has the potential, but she lacks experience on the international level. Maybe some time on the NT will help her and potentially make any move to a foreign league easier. Right now, as good as Li is in the domestic league, she has not yet proven herself with the NT. If she does do well on the NT, then a move abroad might be easier. At least that was the case with Zhu.

Agreed! Since the national team training has begun during the finals, Li hasn't been able to train under Lang Ping. Though I'm sure since her and Lai Yawen showed up at the previous game, they took notes on how to improve Li's weak areas. She has the most potential as far as new upcoming chinese volleyball talent goes. Her name was in the roster for last years Grand Prix, but didn't participate. She last took part in the 2015 Girl's U18 World Championship where China placed 3rd, Li won one of the Best Outside Spiker awards at only 15. I hope to see her in this summers volleyball nations league.

P.S-You know a lot about the Chinese league, just curious, are you Chinese, aloha?

I grew a liking to Chinese volleyball more so since their win in Rio. I liked the group of girls Lang Ping brought and the smart decisions she made in adjustments for each match. She utilized every player. I remember the gold medal point where she changed servers and whispered something in Zhang Changning's ear during the timeout. Zhang's serve resulted in an overpass by Popovic and ultimately won them gold. As far as Chinese League and National Team News, I keep up with this website. It's in Chinese, so you'll have to use the translate feature. sports.sina.com.cn/others/volley.shtml

I only happened upon game 4 last night on TV. Li Yingying couldn't seem to put any balls down in the last 15 points or so, aside from the last point. I was expecting a much more dominant hitter based on what you guys had been saying. I'll need to go back and watch some of the earlier games. I've been too busy to really follow the league this year.

Yuan was supposed to serve, but Lang Ping said she felt Yuan's serve was inconsistent, so rather than risking Yuan serving out, she brought in Zhang to serve instead. As for Lang's instruction, she was probably telling Zhang the serve she wants, and turns out Lang was right. I'm more of a Turkish league fan, but I also do follow the Chinese league now, since I had a Chinese colleague at work who was pretty much a walking Chinese volleyball encyclopedia.

The fans seem great also, they show true love for volleyball, the athletes, and clubs.

Her jump serve not working very well, but as a hitter, she was quite impressive. I thought that Li Yingying has a subpar game (for her standards), then saw that she scored 31 points. Kim Yeon Koung had a great first set.
