Early Beatles was pretty much pop, no?

LOL. it's not that i dislike the songs people are listing; it's just that i would never think to characterize songs from the beatles, for example, as pop songs. Just having fun, going with the ( Orinoco) flow. love enya. and i might be showing my yute (did you say 'the two yutes?') but i've always thought of the beatles as rock and/or roll.

People my age (mid-60s) tend to view the Beatles as Gods. They were "significant" in that they brought about a big change in music from everything that preceded. But I think it's fair to classify much of their music a "pop." Let's face it, "Want to hold your hand" ain't "Blowin in the wind." Two Utes walk into a bar.....

Yeah, I wondered about the labeling of certain musicians as rock n rollers and such. For any given album of the Beatles, for example, they have a mix of love ballads, plain ol' rock n roll, some Ringo children's music, some novelty pieces that belong in a state fair, and the weird George Harrison Indian sitar stuff. A lot of musicians composed and performed a wide variety of music styles.

I believe this was Palmer's first album--different than what became popular in the '80s. My girlfriend dragged me to a Robert Palmer concert in the late 80s. I will always be grateful to her for this. While I (literally) slept through Palmer's part of the show, the opening act was the first time I had ever been introduced to one of my favorite musicians of all time, Johnny Clegg.

I don't know about dancing, but when I hear these songs it brings a smile to my face. Maybe because these songs are older and you don't hear them that often today (unless you have them on your playlist). This is a pretty eclectic list, and I tried not to list any that have already been listed.
The Outfield - Your love David Bowie - Changes The Kinks - Lola Tom Petty - Free falling Looking Glass - Brandy Don McLean - American Pie Dexys Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl Police - Roxanne Harry Chapins - Cat's in the Cradle Cat Stevens - Peace train Dobie Gray - Drift away Joe Jackson - Is she really going out with him Dire Straits - Sultans of swing The Cars - My best friends girl The Beatles - Yesterday Elton John - Levon

Cat's in the Cradle is Harry Chapin's. Not to nitpick, just for the record.

Pop songs...well, that kills about 90% of my favorite songs, but:
God Only Knows - Beach Boys Someday, Someway - Marshall Crenshaw Bad Time (to be in love) - Grand Funk. Not a pop band, but that's a hell of a good pop song. Billie Jean - Michael Jackson That Thing You Do! - The Wonders. Not even a real band, but that song has hooks n' harmonies for days. Out of Touch - Hall & Oates Everybody (Backstreet's Back) - The Backstreet Boys. Yeah, I went there. I'm a Believer - The Monkees Take On Me - a-ha Roam - The B52's Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars Gold - Spandau Ballet. You could also interchange Gold with "True." Crazy - Gnarls Barkley Wouldn't it Be Good - Nik Kershaw

Take On Me had maybe the first successful "story" video, and to this day it's still one of my favorite videos.
