They know they're dumbbells.

In one exercise, I have to hold a dumbbell above my head with one straightened arm and with the other arm, hold another dumbbell down in front of me. Then, in that position, do a squat. It's almost impossible for me to do that squat with the one arm holding the dumbbell straight above my head. Something about that body position...
Excruciating.

People complain burpees are so tough. To me, they're easy peasy. What's tough are split lunges. Pain beyond pain. I have to cheat by not dropping my knees as much. But I don't want to advocate cheating.

Ran 3 miles at the local track -- that's 12 laps. Every half-lap, I stopped to do some core (e.g., crunches, leg lifts, sit ups) or upper body (e.g., push ups, tricep dips) exercise. Took a long time. I'm beat.

6 miles today. I'm off.
(I'm really going now.)
Update: I wasn't in the mood for a 6-miler. Stayed home to lift weights instead. At my age, strength and range-of-motion training is very important.

Punching bag. I usually do 4 or 5 rounds, lasting five minutes each with 1 minute of rest. If you stop punching or kicking be sure to continue moving. Try wearing some heavy clothing if you can stand it. A great way to lean up and feel good. Especially if you have problems that prevent you from running.

45 minutes of medicine ball exercises. More than anything else, medicine ball routines really kill me.

Went for a 12.8 mile bike ride today. Weather in the upper 60's, blue sky, and sunny. Still a little chilly for a bike ride, but no complaints.
My path combines two different trails. I start on the Rock Island trail, and make a cut west and hop on the Salt Creek trail, which features a great view of the city's skyline. Then I cut back into the city, by going over our new pedestrian bridge, which puts me in the middle of downtown. I take O street to get back onto the Rock Island trail, which brings me full circle.

I have this fear that I'm going to fall off my bicycle in spectacular fashion where I somersault in the air and then land head-first into a pile of sharp-edged rocks under an overpass.

Speaking of bicycles, I took mine to grad school because I decided I was going to bike everywhere. I even taught myself how to stand on the pedal on one side while coasting -- usually for mounting and dismounting. Then, school started and after a few times, I stopped riding my bike. Became more of a hassle. I just walked everywhere, which was more pleasant even if it was less efficient. For off campus stuff, I just drove.

I did Yoga today, every Sunday for an hour in a class. It can be a little boring because its all breathing and holding positions, but it works wonders for me.

Let's see: my PB is 23'29 5k, 49'45 10k, 1'48'15 Half Marathon. Longest bike ride 107 miles. I've never run just a mile full out so I don't know what I could do there. I do weights but don't keep track. I can hold a plank for a measly 75 seconds. I'm trying to get back to that half marathon time. Still a few minutes off. I can still hit the 5k and 10k times but the half is a different animal. I refuse to do burpees.

I am thinking of buying a couple of bikes though.

Biking is really my thing. N+1 = number of bikes I own versys what I "need". I have biking in Canada on my bucket list. There are a couple of nice tours out there.
