Food should be its own thread instead of commingling it with other crap in the "Thread About Anything."
Some suggestions for discussion topics:
1. What's your favorite food? What's your least favorite food? 2. What did you have for lunch? 3. Why the heck did you eat THAT of all things, ya weirdo? 4. Healthy food choices no one should ever try...ever. 5. What would be your choice of last meal before you meet St. Peter? Oh, and for those of you who are not God-believers, what's your last meal choice before you rot in hell? 6. What is your preferred snack to accelerate your obesity? 7. Don't tell me you're going to stuff that in your mouth? 8. Favorite beverages and other things that taste like urine, e.g., beer. 9. Food that you tell other people you love because you want to impress them, but secretly, you hate it with a passion, e.g., Cornish hen. 10. Pretentiousness of food and wine connoisseurs. 11. Burritos, wraps, and falafels. Are they all essentially the same thing?

I guess the non-American traditional foods from foreign countries. 2. I don't eat on a traditional schedule, but the most recent thing I had was an egg and potato burrito. 3. It's cheap and good. Plus different seasonings make it not the same every time. And don't call me Shirley. 4. Not sure. I don't eat much junk food, but also I'm not the kale and quinoa type. 5. Going with the latter, flamin' hot cheetos with flamin' hot wings. Get it? 6. Not much of a snacker. More of an eat when I'm hungry type. I guess fruit would count as my snack- oranges and bananas primarily. 7. That's what she said. 8. My primary daily beverages are water, tea, coffee, with no additives. I do not know the last time I drank something else. It was probably wine. 9. Liars go to hell (see question 5). 10. Don't forget the cigars. 11. Just like God, Allah, and Odin.

Some of my favorite food experiences. - i went to Seattle and had lunch at Elliott's Oyster House. It is a bit touristy but I didn't care. I sat down at the oyster bar and started talking to the guy shucking the oysters. I asked him for the pacific northwest experience and he gave me a dozen oysters, everyone different, all harvested from the pacific northwest. He laid them out like a clock and wrote down the name of each oyster in a clock face. He then talked me through each one, telling where the oyster came from, the terroire and whether it was sweet water or salt water oyster. After i was done, I ordered two or three of each one of my favorites. I topped it off with a cup of clam chowder.
- Another time I was in Seattle, the conference I attended took us out to one of the islands on a boat, where they had built a native lodge. It was freaking cold and as soon as we got off the boat, they gave us a Styrofoam cup of clam broth with whole clams in there, the best warming elixir ever. The main dish was fresh salmon, split open and cooked while staked to the ground in from of a massive fire. Incredible.
- I went to try out a new Indian place with my girlfriend and sat next to an older Indian gentlman who was in town for business, he order a bunch of different dishes, more than what an army of people can eat. He told us that this restaurant is a South Indian place and South Indian is not very prevalent in the US because the ingriedients go bad quickly so it was difficult to manage. He handed his dishes over to us and told us to try every thing. He also proceeded to tell us how the dishes are made and what made it special. This is where I got my taste for methu vada and dhosas.
- I went out to Dallas with my boss for business, this was my favorite boss, he was the person who told me: ask forgiveness, not permission. He is also Brasilian so we went to the Fogo de chao and had the rodizio, the Brasilian barbecue. He explained each cut of meat and charmed the waiters into giving us some unique dishes they had in back. This is where I grew to love the picanha cut.
- I was in Angouleme in France for work, went there with a bunch of American engineers, Angouleme is a small town, where Eleanor of Aquitaine was born. We went to a local restaurant and this was where I had my first steak tartare. Incredibe mouth feel and the freshness was indescribable.
- I was in China, my hosts went all out and fed me like an Emperor, I'd never met them before. I tried razor clams for the first time, sweet and fresh, because they just pulled them out of the tank. Tiny little cockles thatthey had to teach me how to pull the meat out as the dumb American guy could not figure out how to eat it. And the piece de resistance: a turtle soup that came out with the turtle perched atop a bunch of dikon pieces and as soom as they touched the turtle with the ladle, it fell apart.
- I was maybe ten when we were in Honduras, we went to a party and there were these women huddles around a coal fired stove and a griddle sitting atop of the flames and they were making tortilla like pancakes with corn masa and either cheese or meat stuffed in the middle and the corn masa formed over the stuffing. My first taste of pupusas.
- Sitting outside in Taipei, drinking beers with some friends and eating deep fried smelly tofu and dipping them in soy sauce and hot pepper sauce. Still one of my favorite things to do.
- i had been reading about Japanese cuisine and learned about the omakase: chef's choice. I walked into the only sushi place in town that is Japanese owned and ordered the omakase sashimi. The sushi chef came out from behind the counter and asked if I was serious. I said I was. He said how much, I gave him a dollar amount. He asked: more fish or better fish? I said better fish. I was a fat and happy man that evening.
- My freshman year in college I went to Chicago with my room mate, where he is from, to spend Thanksgiving. The Friday after Thanksgiving my dorm buddies took me on a tour of Chicago, going to the Museum of Science and Industry, the Loop, and everywhere else. We then had dinner at Pizzeria Unos, the original location. i had had Chicago style pizza before, but this is where I figured out that I loved it. We went to see the midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Biograph that evening too.
- The Fort in Morrison Colorado was built as a replica of Bent's Fort in Arkansas, the owner had a menagerie on site and it had an incredible view of downtown Denver. I first tried: bone marrow spread on toast points, Rocky Mountain Oysters, and caribou meat there.
- Visiting Arthur Bryants in Kansas City for the first time ever, feeling a little threatened when I saw the armed guard and the bars on the windows on the outside, and then finding myself melting into the Formica table inside after having my very first taste of burnt ends.
- Walking into Deacon Burton's place in Atlanta, sitting where MLK Jr. Andy Young, etc. sat and had the Deacon's fried chicken. Incredible.
- Having boudin balls for the first time and roasted suckling pig at Cochon in NOLA. So good.
- Visiting a small town in the former East Germany as a guest of a competitor and being treated to a banquet that was incredible, first time eating boar, curry wurst, cold cuts and head cheese at every break, along with pastries. I was comatose by the time the afternoon break came along, that is how much food they fed us. Most interesting thing for me? They don't serve butter with the bread, they serve schmaltz, chicken fat with cracklings.
- Finally, going to Monterrey Mexico, we had factories in the NAFTA zone. Were told to try not to wander off as we maybe kidnapped. So we stayed close to the hotels and spent a lot of time in the hotel bar, where I indulged in trying out the cabritos, baby goats, and paid the bartender to give me a tutorial about tequila one evening. Figure out the difference between the cheap stuff and expensive sipping Reposado and Anejo.

Wow, Phaedrus. Impressive. I don’t like fish. I do like shrimp, however. Shrimp tacos are muy bueno. Falafel-worst part of our trip to Israel. Best steak I ever had was in Wichita. USAV Adult Nationals. Had some ramen in Maui with pork belly. Delicious. I have Carnation Instant breakfast most mornings. But I’m starting a low carb thing Monday, so bacon and eggs are on the agenda. Chips and salsa are a favorite. As are Reese’s Peanut Butter cups.

The first time I had Indian food was in 1993 in San Francisco. I thought, man, this is the most incredible thing! Loved the naan, the various curries, and chicken. I've been eating at Indian buffets ever since even though, to be honest, I can't really name the dishes by memory. I think it's because I love them all and I just dive in without really caring what they're called. Some curry thing here, some fried stuff there, some rice combo on the side, various naan over there.

Did study abroad in Greece. Had a late rooftop dinner of mousakka with a few classmates underneath the acropolis while a blood moon occurred above us. Had this excellent egg-lemon sauce braided lamb shank.
Midnight paella in Spain.
Craft nyc had like pork three different ways. Wine selection and service were spectacular.
I'm Jamaican so our oxtail is always a stew which I love but I had this Thai oxtail soup with white rice. Brothy, fresh lime juice, cilantro, fried shallots huge pieces of oxtail just before falling off the bone. Just spoon the rice into the soup. Simple but honestly one of the best things I've ever had.
And I love tacos. I'm a taco fanatic.

Some of my favorite food experiences............. WOW! WOW! WOW! I am most impressed by your food experience, but I am even more impressed with your memory (or record keeping). Darn, my life is so boring. I love carrot cake but all the store-bought ones are so sweet. I wish they would tone down the sugar. My family and I were crazy about carrot cake from the local branches of the French chain restaurants Mimi's Cafe. And then they stopped serving it a few years ago. Though I don’t ever really bake anything, randomly one day I decided to search for that carrot cake recipe and found a few! I followed this one: www.justapinch.com/recipes/bread/sweet-bread/carrot-bread-from-mimis-cafe.htmlSince then family and many friends get to enjoy it once more. I wonder if Mimi’s stopped serving them free before meals, and stopped even selling it, because it’s somewhat expensive to make. This recipe is just right in sweetness IMO, but should still be very enjoyable with less brown sugar.
