For sushi, I'll go to any buffet. Not a conventional Japanese restaurant, but a buffet place. The place has to incorporate the word "buffet" in its name.

I don't go to those fancy schmancy places like you folks. My favorite fries are the Cajun fries from Five Guys. You have to eat it right away or else they'll get soggy and disgusting. I suppose that goes for all fries. And then there's the free peanuts. I used to love those. Then, time passed. I bought some Costco unsalted peanuts. Got used to that taste. Then, when I went back to Five Guys and threw some peanuts into my mouth, they were super salty. I don't know if Five Guys changed their peanut roasting recipe or changed vendors or what, but I can't eat those extra salted peanuts anymore. I prefer the unsalted variety from Costco. I was walking by the patio of a Five Guys on Easter Day. Everyone got their stuff in a bag and they were absolutely covered in grease stains. But Gordon Biersch is hardly fancy. An order of their fries is less than Five Guys. I think this order is $3.25 and still big enough to share:

I'm the guy who the Gilroy garlic festival was created to attract. Now I still like garlic but in small doses and in subtle form. The garlic fries is great for about half a serving and then it gets to be too much.

Ha, this food thread got close to many of my recent food experience. I went to a famous roast goose place in HK a couple weeks ago. Liked the goose, and loved their garlic paste shrimp, which looked similar to this: www.foodiebaker.com/roasted-butterflied-prawns-in-garlic-parsley-butter-delia-smith/I then I tried to make the dish at home using a electric fryer. Came out just right for me but slightly too garlicky for my wife. You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya, got to please yourself!I had garlic fries at several LA hot dog places. The first few bites were indeed fantastic, after that I did yearn for a plainer taste. By the way, electric fryer does wonder reheating soggy fries! It has become my most used cooking method.

I remember all the times I've dined in New Orleans. Other cities, not so much. Besides that one town, best food comes out of my kitchen.

I prefer fries that look like this, with the skins on them. I remember a place that had fries like that. Skins on and double-cooked. They had the first cooked fries in a tray. They were really crispy. It was at a hot dog place called Jody Maroni’s Sausage Kingdom. Not sure why it closed. They still have a couple of locations in Southern California.

Living in Southern California, it is about Mexican Food. Favorit mexiccan places include Los Cincos Puntos in East Los Angeles. Not a sit down place unless you consider the hood of your car as a sit down place. home made thick tortillas with great carnitas and a great choice of salsas. A smallish place is La Azteca Tortillaria near Glendale and Los Feliz. Place closes by 2, but they have been there for about 75 years or more. Emberada Con Chicharron y Chili Verde (or Rojo) is their signature item. Hand made tortilla with beans, chili verde and of course Chicharron. s3-media1.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/88dIMlrapQ9n8tsUlgu5zQ/o.jpg

Has anyone been able to do perfect mustard like that?

I'm probably just going to go for Red Robin tonight. Their fries are OK if you like "fat" fries.

I'm probably just going to go for Red Robin tonight. Their fries are OK if you like "fat" fries. I went there the first time a few years ago. Then I went to see a Jason Bourne movie. Nearly puked from the car chaser sc cents and I have not had the desire to go back. Not the restaurant's fault, but my brain automatically makes the connection.
