Well Karch currently is part of the system and the structure of the US national team and with Beale gone seemingly the only one that knows anything about volleyball. I guess if you're going to criticize where else are you going to point it at besides him. Right now it seems a coach with the vision thing could really reshape USNT pretty much however he wanted and that seems to be the biggest sticking point with karch. No bigger Vision about what's wrong and what can be done.

That's pretty rich, considering there are those who will likely root for the US to lose just to prove their point that Karch is absolutely the worst coach. Don't deny it, you know they are out here. Reading between the lines of certain posts, and that is what they are saying.

For me, Karch just happens to be the coach right now. My criticism would be the same regardless of the coach's name. The fact we don't have young players emerging, yet probably have the deepest talent pool is exactly why some of us are upset about the trajectory of the program. It's especially frustrating that we do not seem to be developing that next generation, whether to help in Tokyo or take over for the 2024 quad. I love Larson, Foluke, and the other vets, but we still have two years to Tokyo and they're already showing their age. The fact that they're clear favorites to be starting in Japan goes to show how little our program has done to develop the next generation. The US should never be in a position where 35 year olds are still carrying the team. You can criticize Karch as much as you like, but I think it's more than just the coach's issue. A more systemic or structural problem is involved here... I would think due to Karch's position and reputation, he could go a long way toward creating a vision for the future.

Iron hammer you seem to be suggesting that criticism of karch is really a call for his dismissal in the middle of the quad and I can't see that anybody is really making that call. It seems to me the only thing that could snag Karch before the end of the quad is whether he got caught in some #meto problem or if some national columnist grabbed a hold of the Hooker thing and tried to label him as a racist. I think the real concern is that the USA isn't going to be that successful in this quad and that the pipeline for the next quad is going to be empty and somehow karch might get signed up for another 4 years. Karch has the three quadrennial tournaments yet to be completed and they should go a long way towards the final evaluation of his success as a coach in his two quads and whether he should be signed to another four-year contract.

Ok fair enough. Karch may have to go if US does not, at the very least, improve on the bronze medal from Rio. Now the bigger question is WHY is the pipeline empty...

Ni shi muyu zhongwen, ma? Is that supposed to be Chinese? I'm not very good at it yet, but I know the pronouns, "shi", how to ask questions, and some other basic vocabulary.
