This is the only travel thread you need.
Some topics to ponder:
1. Do the canals of Venice really stink of sewage? 2. Are there restrooms at the top of the Acropolis? 3. Do you pack your own soap? 4. Cruises: should I know how to swim before embarking? 5. That time you got food poisoning in Barcelona from that paella dish. Discuss. 6. I'm American so I'm speaking English wherever I go, damn the locals. 7. Let's all take photos in the museums even though the sign says "No flash photography." 8. Top 10 things I would like to steal from the Louvre. 9. What should I do with the water that I scooped up from Mary's Well in Nazareth? 10. So, which stone do I press to open the secret door to the secret chamber in the pyramids at Cairo? 11. Why don't the pirates from Somalia wear eye patches? 12. The rudest locals on the planet: the British or the French? 13. The temple architecture of China, Japan, and Korea -- can you even tell the difference? 14. Can I bring a dingo back home from Australia? 15. Which country's water is safe to drink right from the tap?

1. Never been to Venice, but I am told it does smell. 2. No. No toilets on the Acropolis. Not even in ancient times, as far as I know. Best place in the world, however. Just pee beforehand. 3. No. Maybe. I don't remember. Most places have soap. 4. No. Not a good idea to fall overboard. Swimming probably won't help. Of course, if you don't want to drown in the pool ... Lots and lots of food on cruises. Beware the Midnight Buffet. 5. I stuck with chuleta de cerdo in Spain. Patatas fritas. Coke. 6. That's a good rule. Also swear at them when they look confused. 7. I just take the painting. Who needs a photo? Then, when they start jabbering at me in whatever language they use, I swear at them in English. 8. Been there. Done that. Banned by the Mods. 9. Mary has a well in Nazareth? 10. Third one from the left. But it's going to lead you to Gimmillaro's office. Old office. 11. They did for a while, but they had trouble taking them on and off with their hooks.
I walked all over Rome, a couple of times. Barcelona? Seems to me I spent a lot of time sitting on a bench by the Columbus statue. And at Wimpy's. No food poisoning there.

Countries Iโve visited: England France Austria (most beautiful) Germany (only there to catch a plane home) Italy (best food) Slovania Czech Republic Ukraine Russia (most expensive) (very unfriendly) China Korea (very friendly) Uruguay Mexico (least expensive) Israel (worst food)
My husband LOVES to travel. After our trip to France and Germany in a couple of weeks, our next trip is next spring. Doing a Baltic cruise. Never done a cruise before. After that, itโs Japan. Husband wants to go to Vietnam, Thailand. I donโt.

I donโt remember Venice smelling. Whole place was pretty overrated, IMO.

I've been everywhere. The most fun I've had was on cruises -- Europe, Alaska, Canada, New England/East Coast, Mexico, Asia. Very convenient because food and lodging are taken care of. Plus, buffet 24/7.

Moved our trip back about 3 weeks. Realized we would be gone during the State HS Boys championship. The team my son coaches has a pretty good shot. Luckily all airfare was points, so no penalty, and all hotels/tours could be cancelled by May 1.

I have never been on a cruise -- those cruises (probably over-reported by the press) where hundreds get sick scare me. I have traveled extensively in the western parts of the US and of course I go on the road with Stanford during volleyball season.

I became obsessed with James Michener's Iberia when I was in high school. My retirement dream now is to go live in Spain for a few months and visit many of the places he wrote about, even though I know that book very out dated now, I would like to try.
Of course now my obsession is with Catalunia and Barcelona, I would like to spend an extended time in Barcelona.

1. Venice doesn't smell. If you're there on the right sunny day, it's amazing and beautiful. I went back when it was gloomy and didn't enjoy it as much. Also, so many pigeons. 2. IDK 3. No 4. I refuse to cruise. Norovirus is real! 5. Only travel-related food poisoning was in Egypt. Stopped at a roadside restaurant on the way back from Saqqara to Cairo (and I distinctly remember it being REALLY GOOD) and spent the night praying to the porcelain gods. 6. Ugh. You are the worst. 7. That pisses me off. Also, like everything worth seeing in a museum has a (better) photo of it that you can pull up on the internet in like 2 seconds. You really think your iPhone is that good? 8. Anything but the Mona Lisa. So overrated. 9. I didn't even know that was a thing. 10. That's actually just the bell for the Pizza Hut. 11. I bet the one-eyed ones do. 12. Midwesterners. 13. I plead the 5th. 14. Only if it ate your baby. 15. Not Flint's.

I have traveled extensively in the western parts of the US and of course I go on the road with Stanford during volleyball season. There are different kind of cruises for different kind of people. They aren't all one and the same. If you pick one that suits your taste, you can avoid those that...rub you the wrong way. Some cruises for example are on mega ships with over 3000 passengers while others are on smaller and more exclusive vessels. Likewise, some cruises skew toward the younger demographics and a more causal atmosphere while others prefer a focus on more mature passengers with emphasis on the luxurious experience.
