Churches and architecture are the 2 things that make we want to travel, they are what they always were so that is cool to me, even if their is a McDonalds across the street. Much of the world seems to be losing it's uniqueness. I have never been to Europe or Asia. Is it like that, affected by universal internet culture, and similar businesses everywhere?

Much of the world seems to be losing it's uniqueness. I have never been to Europe or Asia. Is it like that, affected by universal internet culture, and similar businesses everywhere? If you got the time and money, you should definitely try to take holidays to Europe and Asia. It is worth it, believe me. Yes, due to homogenization and commodification effects of globalization, the world is a more similar place than it was before. But even so, the world is still a place of unique wonders. There is the one and only Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre in Paris. There is the one and only Big Ben, British Museum, Tower Bridge and Tower of London in London. There is the one and only Leaning Tower of Pisa in Pisa. The Roman Colosseum can only be found in Rome. The spectacular Mattherhorn is breath-taking whether you view it from Switzerland or Italy. The Taj Mahal can only be found in India. The Great Wall and the Forbidden City can only be found in China. The magnificent temple ruins of Angkor Wat (which looks like a set from an Indiana Jones movie) can only be found in Cambodia. The gorgeous Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Temple of Kyoto, in the photo from my earlier post in this thread) is stunning and a Japanese national monumment. Some of these sights have "knock-off" versions around the world, but they aren't the same as the real thing. And actually being there and seeing and experiencing it with your own senses is far different than merely looking at photos of those sites.

LeBron James travels more than anybody. I was about to make a basketball "travel" joke and then realized I probably read a basketball "travel" joke in this thread. And here it is! LOL!

After we got back home from Rome, my wife has been suffering so severely from jet lag that after she gets home from work, she goes straight to bed, giving me the freedom to play video games all night. Woo Hoo! This is why I've been able to accomplish so much recently. I suffer from jet lag, too, but I soldier on.

On Monday, the wife and I will be flying out to Denver for our daughter's wedding. The actual wedding will take place on Saturday but we have to get there early for prep and rehearsal dinner and crap. Another week without video games...

You staying in a hotel, or with your daughter? She lives in a 2 bedroom 1 bath tiny apartment. We're staying in a hotel. Maybe I'll use the swimming pool and exercise room. I'm really not into wedding prep. I find no joy in it. If I had my druthers, she'd get married in city hall in front of a civil servant, sign the wedding certificate, and be done with it.

Well, if you are staying in a hotel, and you don't like doing wedding prep I think your wife would leave you at hotel and go prep with your daughter without you to bother both of them. You need to pack your gaming console and several of your games and play in the hotel when your wife is out doing wedding prep. Everybody is happy! Your not bothering them during wedding prep, and you get to enjoy pool, exercise, and video games for a couple hours a day.

I read it takes one day for each time zone you traveled to recover. And, as you age it gets harder 😕.

I'm going to use the hotel pool a lot while in Denver. I'm also taking a bunch of books to read. I don't expect to do any sightseeing, nor do I want to. I'm going to try to finish Angle of Repose (by Wallace Stegner) and perhaps start on The Anatomy Lesson (by Philip Roth).

Headed to Paris in the morning. My husband has been packing for hours. He tries on a shirt, asks my opinion, repeats the process. He’s driving me crazy. Just pick out a couple pair of jeans, for crying out loud. Took me an hour to pack and I didn’t ask his opinion on anything. Hope we’re still speaking in 10 days. Other than his packing neurosis, I have no complaints about the man. He’s good guy. how was paris? did you leave the husband there?

This 2018, I plan to visit Europe and Spain. For my summer holiday, I'm looking at Tenerife or Lanzarote.I came across this one article about the place here in www.canaryislandsinfo.co.uk/la-gomera/places/alajero/ I've never been to either and apparently, the beaches are fantastic as well as being suitably 'different' to make it interesting. How about you guys? Any plans?
