What is considered the most significant invention in modern history? The printing press. It was the beginning of the end for the Catholic Church. Imagine going to Church and the Priest walks in wearing silk robes, and stands in front of the Holy Book and recites it to the mostly illiterate congregation in Latin. The whole thing was mystical and powerful. The printing press allowed for the Bible to be published in other languages, and for the first time many could actually learn it's contents away from the Church setting. I would personally liken it to the modern day influence of the internet. An explosion of available information. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printing_press"In Renaissance Europe, the arrival of mechanical movable type printing introduced the era of mass communication, which permanently altered the structure of society. The relatively unrestricted circulation of information and (revolutionary) ideas transcended borders, captured the masses in the Reformation and threatened the power of political and religious authorities. The sharp increase in literacy broke the monopoly of the literate elite on education and learning and bolstered the emerging middle class. Across Europe, the increasing cultural self-awareness of its peoples led to the rise of proto-nationalism, and accelerated by the development of European vernacular languages, to the detriment of Latin's status as lingua franca." The internet, because it would exist as is without the printing press. But for the time, yes, the printing press. The process to get running water into homes has significantly increased life.

An oven is an inefficient appliance for toast.

In the History of History what has been the most significant thing that ever happened? Big Bang does not count, has to be either before or after that. I would argue that a toaster is no higher than fourth, so bring up your game Ruff.

I will go with this.
#4 - Toaster #3 - Homo Sapiens brain development #2 - Printing press (which is really a by product of #3, same for the internet and the toaster for that matter) #1 - Moon develops as off shoot from earth colliding with another planet and a bunch of stuff results.

1. The invention of gunpowder and the subsequent development of explosives. 2. The invention of video games. 3. The birth of Hayley Mills on April 18, 1946. 4. The birth of William G. Morgan and the subsequent invention of mintonette.

Just my understanding, but they have discovered that in it's smallest parts matter can randomly pop in and out of existence. Does it go somewhere, or does it just not exist until it appears? So take it from there.

So what were the Byzantines thinking when they saw the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans in 1453? They were thinking Istanbul was Constantinople.

1. asteroids carrying water and elements pelting the planet, all of which cooked under the sun's unrelenting radiation for eons. . . . . 2. agriculture and terrain-scaping.
