More accurately the Irish are enslaved by Whiskey. Same funeral same Grandma, and now the Wake is nearing it's end. The back room is filled with bottle's of Whiskey and Rye, but NOBODY can have a drink till Grandma says it is time for that. All it takes is a nod of her head, the back room quickly fills and the other great Irish tradition starts. Whiskey is the Creature.

Anyway the grandma story needed to be told.

I can't tell the Irish accent from the Scottish and British. It seems that whenever people try to do a Scottish accent, they're just basically trying to imitate Sean Connery.

I can't tell the Irish accent from the Scottish and British. Start by watching Rob Roy and Boondock Saints.

My friend mom was really large woman. She told her kids as soon as she died to take a towel, roll it up, wrap it like a noose and pull on the back, tie it tight. Sort of a neck lift. Made her triple chin much less noticeable.
Most funerals I attend are open casket. Not during the actual funeral, but during the viewing. A very strange custom, if you ask me. I’ve instructed my family NO VIEWING, unless my kids wants to see me. NO ONE ELSE!!!!!! Really don’t care about a funeral, but my husband says we’re having one. So if he goes first, no funeral for me, more money for the kids to fight over.

My husband’s brother died, but the body wasn’t found for about 5 days. We didn’t tell his mom-told her he died the same day he was found. Mybmother-in-law wanted an open casket, but the body was pretty bloated and gross. He’d had a heart attack and fallen flat on his face. Broken facial bones, nose, etc. The mortician somehow convinced her 1-she didn’t want to see the body and 2-no open casket.
I think it would have killed her to know he laid in his apartment for 5 days.

My dad said that when he dies, he wants to be cremated and his ashes tossed into the ocean. I never quite understood this. Now, IF there's even a chance that: (1) a spirit or soul exists, (2) such spirit persists after death, and (3) that persistent spirit follows your body (or ashes), the last place I would ever want to be is in the middle of the frikkin cold and lonely ocean. That's sheer horror to me! Yes, I'm aware that the chances of those three aforementioned conditions being true is very very remote. But -- and this is the irrational side talking -- it seems possible to me and it scares me %*$#less!

The horror I have is that your last thought stays with you for eternity. Like a stuck CD.
I also don't like these studies that suggest the brain keeps working for quite a while after you "die."
OTOH, there's a good hamburger. Makes up for a lot.

I was just FaceTiming with my mother. She's wondering how she should get rid of or sell all the junk in their house because she's worried there'll be so much junk that I'll have to deal with them if she dies. She wants to do it via craigslist because someone told her to do it that way and I told her, "You'll meet some dude in a parking lot and he'll basically rob you." So, anyway, I told her not to worry about. I'll clean up the house, keep the stuff I want, sell the others, and throw out the rest.

When I die, no one on VT will know. Sad fact, really.

One last grandma story, lest anyone think poorly of my Grandmother. She died at 87 and had over 20 grandchildren. She had managed to save a little bit for each one, and left them all a cheque for just under $1200.00.

Also I think I have posted this before but it's interesting. "You die twice, once when your physical body dies, then again when the very last person who ever knew you dies."
