When I die, no one on VT will know. Sad fact, really. Actually, it's just the opposite for me. I've told my friends to post my name on Volleytalk after I die. But don't wait for it. I currently have no plans to die. Good timing - I just had my annual Physical today. I'm in damn good health. The machines think that I'm 12 years younger than I actually am.

There's a pretty decent book on the study of death by an author named Mary Roach. "Stiff" if I recall correctly. Kind of REALLY interesting stuff.
Having said that: death doesn't scare me. I had several near death experiences in my childhood and for some reason it just doesn't freak me out. What freaks me out is the sadness associated with a loved one passing, I hate the thought that those that survive me (be it my partner or my kids) would go through grieving. Grief is horrible horrible horrible. When my mom passed away it was like someone knocked the breath out of me for five or six weeks before I could take a deep breath again.
Open caskets are so "eh" … I've been to a LOT of wakes with the open casket. NO ONE looks like they should look like. The death mask and the overly obvious make up are almost a caricature. Cremate me and take my ashes to my favorite places.

I would like to know the ultimate fate of the universe. My guess is heat death, but I don't know.
I would like to know the nature of a universe. (i.e. how many are there, do they range in sizes, is there something outside of the universe, etc.)
I would like to know more about higher dimensions in space. I would also like to know of living beings in higher dimensions of space.
Locally, I would like see a real image of an exoplanet in my lifetime.
I would like to know if we ever colonized and/or terraformed Mars.
I would like to know how far human civilization advances. From the ability to control our planet (hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes), to dyson spheres that harness the sun's energy as a resource.
I would like to know about what's living on/under Enceladus/Titan/Europa. I would like to be friends with any extraterrestrial life that comes along the way.

Some speculate that while there is only one Universe there was however a total of eight created at the time of the Big Bang. There's also a theory that the Universe actually exists in 8 dimensions: www.ted.com/talks/garrett_lisi_on_his_theory_of_everything

I don't think you'd go back in time after reincarnation.
The Galaxy, Solar System and Planet are all hurling through space at a pretty rapid clip.
Your soul would have quite a ways to travel in order to wind up back on Earth in the Sixties.

Your soul would have quite a ways to travel in order to wind up back on Earth in the Sixties. I think they are considering time as a separate dimension apart from our physical Universe. I could be misunderstanding the complicated nature of it, much of which is about ten miles over my head.

I forgot about this thread.
So, I heard that it’s not healthy to hold on to mundane things belonging to the dead, that it doesn’t aid in the grief process. However, things like photo albums, videos, and audio recordings are okay.

Maybe these are relatively minor things compare to what you want to know in your post, but in recent years we have made important discoveries in physics. We have confirmed the existence of the Higgs Boson, supporting the Standard Model of particle physics. We have discovered the existence of gravitational waves predicted by Einstein. We have our first photo of a Black Hole. These discoveries are pretty important and helpful in helping us understand the universe better.
