As much as I’d love to see a VB national championship in a warm climate and closer to me in the west, not seeing it happening.
December: Hotels in Warm Climates in the winter $$$$ (competing with corporations/winter visitors) Hotels in the Midwest in the winter $ Midwest cities going after this tourney: 🤩 West or South Cities: 😴
Attendance numbers in the Midwest speak for themselves throughout the season. Although I think cities outside the Midwest can get solid attendance when tied to the AVCA convention, the hotels, businesses wanting the tourney in cold climates and offering low cost is too much to overcome. So all of us west coast/south fans will just have to travel north for the one weekend and enjoy our weather when we return home.

Apparently you are saying that "Big10 teams only travel just so far", because unless you host the tournament in Big10 country, then they won't go? look at the host cities for national championship and then attandance, doesn't take much to figure it out..... jesus! So you are saying that. OK.

Because we're talking about the NCAA, let me say up front that I'm sure you're correct. It's all about the money. IMO, what it *should* be about is that they could use the VB final four to grow the sport. Let me ask it this way -- are VB championships being located in the midwest because volleyball attendance there is high? Or is it the other way around -- volleyball attendance there is high because the championships are located there? When you look at the championship attendance numbers, it's clearly a myth that the only places people will attend are the midwest. The last two times they had championships outside the midwest, the attendance was fine (15K in Seattle, 14K in San Antonio). As you start looking at other sites (12K in Tampa) you start running into the problem that Tampa was 10 years ago. 12K was actually pretty decent for 10 years ago. San Antonio was 8 years ago, and it increased to 14K. Seattle was 6 years ago and it increased to 15K. Sure, you're looking at numbers like 17K and 18K now in the midwest, but who is to say you wouldn't be looking at those same increases outside the midwest? The only major blip in attendance in the last 15 years was Oklahoma City, which was only about 10,500 average between the two nights. Personally, I count that as "midwest". But OK, say it's not. Either way, it clearly doesn't reflect the ability to draw crowds on the coasts. Seattle and Tampa did fine, and Sacramento did OK too (13K) even though it was 12 years ago now. I think that if you move the championship to other places, you will help increase attention and attendance in those other places.

Just pick the week after the national rodeo finals and you'll be fine.
