This is an honest question. And if this has been asked my apologies.
So obviously RB and what he did is an absolute tragedy. It disgusts me to even think about it.
How does one feel if the head coach of their favored program has a working relationship with him? Does camps or clinics? Goes INTO the gym to recruit those kids.
I bring this up simply bc I don’t understand. I love this program and coach and don’t mind if said coach is in contact with him or his wife but RB should be put on an island?
So they can recruit the kids and for the sake of winning sell their moral character?
I’m sure there are coaches who won’t recruit those kids bc they morally feel ill about it.
Idk....
I’d love some insight.

In the honest but not feel good category of things I think we are more likely to find gyms and clubs affected by someone being sexually inappropriate with minors than not. So it seems based on reading this forum and various allegations and rumors that circulate. I think the possibility exists that there are hundreds of sexual predators in youth sports, seems to be a new report a few times a week (once a week minimum). How do you avoid any of them? The only ones that seem to know seem to be hush hush about (see the many previous threads on the topic). Unrelated but related: in a neighboring town from me in a gymnastics gym who had a part time instructor recently publicly outed for fondling and being sexually inappropriate with girls as young as 7. His actions severely impacted one of the girls in my daughter's circle who was serious about gymnastics until she was about 12. No one had any clue that when she was 9 years old and privately coached by this man (in his 50's at the time) that he was taking advantage of private lesson time to take advantage of her and several other girls. He was let go by this particular gym long ago (supposedly. An online article from a local paper recently alleged that he had been doing the same in a small town about an hour away from us. When the report came out my daughter told me her friend had been one of this guy's victims back about 8-9 years ago and told her about it awhile ago. Looking back knowing what we know now I guess some of her acting out behaviors during her tween and early teen years make a little more sense. I think the possibility exists that we have zero knowledge of it happening until it is public. Sadly who protected this young soul from this guy? He was an Olympian, no less! I'll see if I can dig up the article just for reference. It's why I wish we would have a more public reporting system in place. We've discussed a zillion times and I won't rehash the arguments for or against but the state of affairs in youth sports makes me sad. I’m sorry for that poor child. Thank you for your feedback. I agree the state of affairs is sad. To think this is happening more than we know and it frightens me. But with this being public now. There is NO WAY a coach of a top 25 program DOESN'T know about this. The degrees of separation are small right? So what if they are still recruiting those kids? What if they keep a relationship with him? How would you feel about that coach and program? What would be super awesome is if a handful of COACHES step up and say no thanks to those kids who play for their club. Wouldn’t that shut this station down? And by NO MEANS am I punishing those PSA’s. Sometimes parents really don’t know. I’m just curious.

Does Rick Butler own the Sports Performance building? If so the real estate holding itself would secure his retirement. He does not really need the club to be financially secure.

Sports performance made a fortune on the camps and travelling clinics. Butler is concerned with his name, I doubt money is a problem.

Anyone posting about coaches going there, recruiting there, etc should feel the same way about anyone who buys the place, giving RB a ton of cash. But of course, money trumps morals a lot of time.

I would also be shocked, if it wasn't in Cheryl's name...also remember folks they were recently out of the country, shopping as some would say, others, creative banking.

I guess reversely the coaches are the ones punishing the kids by not saying anything to the offending party? Making a voice to the environment would help those who don’t... know know?

I would say that this article is at least more factual and less sensationalized than the AP article. And hopefully, these women speaking to the Senate will help to bring about change to youth sports world.
