Curious if anyone was out at GLVB this past weekend for start of GLPL play? AES shows some 15 teams did very well, even against some 18s. Also looks like they are playing best of 5. Is/was that the norm for GLPL? I was! Rick Butler cloned himself 12x and was on every single court watching all the girls and daring you all to report him. If you don't believe me you can ask anyone. It really happened. LOL J/K. Was on a college visit in AZ this weekend with my former VBer. However there is a whole thread floating around here where no one answered the question. Not sure why a parent who spent time in their first post reportedly calling all sorts of gyms about Rick Butler couldn't make the call to all the gyms playing in GLPL to find out how this weekend went. I mean if you're THAT curious. ^^ you seem to have all the pertinent club information and a lot of time to waste. SPRI's number probably hasn't changed and I'm sure the others are all listed online. Why don't you get back to us when you are done? What did you mean by SPRI number, their phone number? That is about the only number that hasn't changed.

Mags - again with the "However there is a whole thread floating around here where no one answered the question."? what question are you even referring to? RE my first post. At no point did I ask ANYONE about rick butler. My calls to other clubs was to verify WCPL was going to have a stronger level of competition at 15s & up, and that my club director had been transparent with me when I asked about league play for 2019 season. I honestly wanted to know from parents/players/coaches how the opening weekend went. I will be just as curious what opinions are of the WCPL as it season starts this coming weekend. Seriously though, pretty salty response for a sincere question. (although cloning would be pretty cool to see...)

A "Grand Venue" that accumulates legend and memories for a community is a valuable thing. That's what's lost. As to a lawsuit attached to the club, I have no idea about that, but if it's lien against the facility , or an obstacle to a sale-- ya, throw that on the tragedy pile. Tragedies beg a hero but a martyr will do. Otherwise, it's just a plain ol' catastrophe. Sorry but I'm just extra angry there is a wonderful community of conscientious, exuberant young athletes whose lives shouldn't be affected by this shtuff. The "Grand Venue" as you call it is home base to a banned coach, who continues to coach in that home base. (at least he is listed as co-director of the SPVB coaches clinic - greatlakescenter.com/wp-content/uploads/coaches-clinic-2019.pdf). Does anyone else see his refusal to adhere to governing bodies of the sport he "loves" as bogus? If nothing else, it shows an arrogance as though he believes he is above it all. RE: the lawsuit - www.chicagolawbulletin.com/archives/2018/02/27/rick-butler-volleyball-class-action-2-27-18/mullen-v-butler - You make a point that I feel is important in that you seem unaware of the depths of RB history (apologies if I am wrong in that assessment). It has often been commented in this, and other threads, that 'everyone' knew/knows about his past and SPRI, and that 'all' volleyball parents should have been aware for a long time. I have no problem saying I had no clue until October of 2017. Our club didn't play GLPL till 15s, so it wasn't on my radar. Thankfully, in this, her 15 season, we will not be attending a single SPVB event. And from what I can tell from AES, not many clubs in the country will be attending any SPVB events either. Does the boycott of SPVB hurt some in the volleyball community? Sure. But to blame anyone other then RB/CB themselves for refusing to step away is ludicrous. Volleyball will most definitely survive. Colleges will most definitely still recruit the region. Players will most definitely still get excellent coaching. Life will go on... Does anyone know why the Butlers attorney is no longer representing them? TERMINATED: 07/03/2018

It may not be a huge deal. The current attorney, Danielle D'ambrose, was at ANGELINI & ORI LLC, the firm of the original attorneys, in June and appears to have moved to her own practice D’AMBROSE P.C. by October. Not certain why, but there's some continuity. On the other hand, that October filing was more or less about this: So, you know, that could have gone better. Whatever, I'm no attorney and I haven't even stayed at a Holiday Inn lately, but don't get too wrapped up in the trivial procedural stuff: this motion was granted and things continue to move. But it'll be a while, they're still wrasslin' to see if this can even be a class action case.

It seems like they were trying to say everyone already knew Rick was a predator so the case should be thrown out. When that didn't happen, his attorney bailed. It appears that his current attorney is a volleyball player. Can anyone confirm if she played at SPRI?

There's a DAmbrose listed on the SPRI 18 Elite team. Does that mean that a family member of one of the potential "class victims" is the attorney for the Butler's?

Makes a nice bookend for Talyor Landfair... (apparently something a little askew with the roster) There are only 4 2019 girls on the top 18's team. Is that normal for SPVB? Why don't they field 17's teams. Is that a JVA thing?
