Team in question is a 1's team, plays Super Open in GLPL, has several other teams lower. Strong, capable players. Consistently plays down when a trophy is at stake thus making the club look good because these strong capable players play down when hardware is on the line. Disingenuous. This isn't a 4's team playing up all season to elevate their skills. This is a consistent 1's team at a moderately sized club. I'm not sure it's beneficial to the players ultimately. But the club sure looks good. Yes and said club is up to 12 National championships that way. They will prob win a couple more in premier and club this year. It is hilarious what others will also notice when it is spoken to the community. Don't you know this is how you recruit and brainwash crazy parents into thinking this reasoning alone is why your child should change clubs or continue to play there?

There should be more uncertainty in outcomes due to many seniors already joining their college teams, correct? It's funny you should say that. I don't know any girls who are joining their teams. I know two who are attending summer classes. The others don't report until they work camp in middle to late July.

Clubs that have been in 18Open each of the last 3 years but are not this year: A5 181 Bob Illini Elite 18 Cardinal Northern Lights 18-1 Mn Select 18-1 Only 951 Elite (Ca) and WVBA (Wa) from west of the Rockies are coming; Neb Jrs is the only other team from west of the Mississippi (Minnesota does not count). While not a persistent team, Fusion has no teams in 18 Open but they did not in 2016 either - 18 Black is playing in premier this time For what it’s worth, IE’s 18C team finished their season at the World Challenge by choice.

Is this the trend that 18 year old's are wanting more time between club and pre-season to live life a little and give their bodies some downtime to heal and re-charge?

Tri-State's team too.

We couldn’t have played AAUs if we had wanted to because more than half our team would have been at college already.

I think the early-reporting trend is lousy. Summer at age 18 after graduation should be treasured. Wish I could have those weeks again.

I had to laugh after the brackets came out. This problem is not endemic to Chicago. I'm not talking about the top teams. I'm talking about the lower age groups.
A few clubs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area doing the same thing. Some are putting their teams down a division or even two/three from where they've played all year. Some in the Aspire division make absolutely no sense. One team put their 16-1's in Aspire and their 16-2's in Classic.
This is just nuts.
Thanks to Northern Lights, MN Select, and M1, for being class acts and keeping it real and not just hunting for trophies.

It almost begs the question of having the need to regulate it since club owners (not all just those in question) can't seem to regulate themselves.

Northern lights 13-1 (#23 on AES) is playing premier while there are spots open in 13 Open

That team played one qualifier - in USA so at least they are consistent. Can’t put much faith in those AES rankings...

AAU allows teams to pick the level they want to play in. If coaches don't like this, they can opt to play in a different event. At this time of year teams are different - players have quit, are on summer vacation, injured/sick, tired of losing, etc. If you are really that competitive, QUALIFY to play in a USAV division where you will play teams of relatively similar level. Or just whine about.
