Just sad. It almost begs the question of having the need to regulate it since club owners (not all just those in question) can't seem to regulate themselves. AAU allows teams to pick the level they want to play in. If coaches don't like this, they can opt to play in a different event. At this time of year teams are different - players have quit, are on summer vacation, injured/sick, tired of losing, etc. If you are really that competitive, QUALIFY to play in a USAV division where you will play teams of relatively similar level. Or just whine about. THANK YOU. smh

It’s a great tournament (maybe the best)! But it’s a Pick up game!

I know it was already mentioned, but rosters are still not up for 17s that start in less than 48 hours. Is this AES, AAU, or the clubs?

There was a time that the AAUs were a tune up tournament for JOs. And it was and still is a great tournament. But people wanted to determine the mythical national champions. It got complicated when the JVA and USAV split, the proponents of each organization made it a point to tout one champion over the other.
I think this is all a matter of the tail wagging the dog. Junior volleyball started out as a way for players to improve in the high school off season, and it is still performing that purpose for most teams and players. The vast majority of the team don't give a rats ass if they ended up getting crowned, most teams finish the season with a loss. It does serves the purpose of the tournament organizers, the club owners and coaches, and the sanctioning bodies to have this mythical National Champion because it puts money in their pockets.
If you are getting your butt whupped consistently, move down, if you are winning tournaments without any challenge, move up. Neither situation help the players get better.
If you are butt hurt about getting whupped, get better so that you don't get whupped rather than blame people for being sandbaggers. Suck it Up Buttercup, this is a learning opportunity.

I think they might wait to publicly post rosters until the day the event starts when coaches have checked in and signed off on them.

This idea of sandbagging is an intriguing conversation but I think ultimately academic. Clubs/teams get to choose at AAUs and each club is going to place different values on winning, competition and overall experience. I personally think it is puzzling when a team plays Open all season and then plays Premier or lower at AAUs (or especially when a USAV Open-qualified team plays Premier at AAUs) but it is their choice. Does it suck? Sure, but I'm with Phaedrus that it can be a learning opportunity for kids and adults and a reminder to focus on what we can control.

There are A LOT of teams that play in Open qualifiers all year then play in the American division for USAV GJNCs. It isn't their choice, but it's essentially the same thing. Just because you want to test yourself against Open competition early in the year doesn't mean you're actually that caliber of team.

Are they available somewhere other than University Athlete? At a smaller school so no UA for me I'm sure you can look at old tournaments to get an idea. AAU rosters aren't final until check-in so I'm sure that is why you don't see anything as of yet.

Interestingly, Northern Lights went to three open qualifiers but failed to get a bid. This morning, they won back to back matches against A5 and OTVA - two teams ranked in PrepVolleyball's top 10 and who will be in the Open division in Detroit.
15 Open Semifinal: Northern Lights vs Sports Performance (Northern Lights won the 1st set)
15 Open Semifinal: KIVA vs Nebraska Elite

Final four is set for tomorrow morning in 18 Open. Finals at 11:00ET and will air on ESPN3 Munciana vs. Far Out, 8:00am Sports Performance (SPRI) vs Team Indiana, 8:00am
Biggest shocker to me is neither Circle City, Lexington United or OT18 Aaron advancing to Gold and are all playing for 9th place at best. CC even have their big guns in Baird (Stanford) and Wohlert (WI). Hoping we don’t have another SPRI v Munciana final...that’s getting old. Although SPRI (7-2) easily defeated Munciana (8-1) today in pool play. It appears Munciana is playing without Megan Miller (NE) though. An all Indiana final would be fun...TI did beat SPRI earlier in the week in 3 close sets, so doubtful they can do it twice.
