The FIVB World Rankings have been updated: www.fivb.org/en/volleyball/VB_Ranking_W_2018-10.aspDoes that mean the World Qualifier will look like this? What a cakewalk for USA if so! 1 Serbia - Puerto Rico - Thailand - Cuba 2 China - Turkey - Germany - Czech Republic 3 USA - Argentina - Bulgaria - Kazakhstan 4 Brazil - Dominican Republic - Cameroon - Azerbaijan 5 Russia - Korea - Canada - Mexico 6 Netherlands - Italy - Belgium - Kenya

Why are points for WGP 2017 included all the way to Dec 31, 2020?

I'm surprised that Italy wasn't higher.

Their results in-between the last 2 World Championship were lacklustre (except for last year's WGP), especially for their standards.

It's mostly that they, and Netherlands, were barred from playing the World Cup due to continental quotas. The World Cup has a huge impact on ranking, so much that even a very lackluster performance there wouldn't have mattered. Just being able to play would have them above Brazil and Russia.

I really don't like this ranking system. Some of European and Asian teams got screwed by this unfair point system. They should do something to make it more reliable. For example, double points for world championship where every teams have a chance to compete there and just half points for world cup because of unbalanced continent quota.
BTW USA got lucky with this current system. They got Argentina which is very overrated team to me. I think Turkey, Thailand, Germany, Canada, Belgium, and many other teams are better than Argentina. Honestly, if I were Turkey, Thailand, or Germany, I'd say please rank me lower and put me in group 3 or 4 instead of 1 or 2. lol

We won't find out officially until next month, but rumor has it that Poland is replacing Cuba in the Intercontinental Olympic Qualification tournament, which would put them (potentially) in a pool with Serbia, Thailand, and Puerto Rico.
Also, the 6 hosts will be announced next month. Serbia, Brazil, China, USA, Russia, and Netherlands are the Top 6 "seeds" but the bidding process ended two weeks ago and we are awaiting the announcement of FIVB's decisions. Reportedly Dominican Republic has a likely chance to host Brazil in their pool.
I'd imagine the USA will host, though maybe Bulgaria wanted a chance?

If so, any idea what site USA Volleyball submitted?

Are any NTs bothering to bring their A teams now that the World Cup is irrelevant for Olympic Qualification?

Are any NTs bothering to bring their A teams now that the World Cup is irrelevant for Olympic Qualification? They should take it seriously still. It still effects their world ranking. I am a little annoyed that the 2017 WGP is still being considered when the VNL is the new tournament in its place.

If so how will the FIVB allow this?

Maybe Azerbaijan put in a bid too, they love their volleyball.
