So today was my first time I have ever had a kidney stone and let me tell you it was the worst amount of pain I have experienced and couldn’t imagine pain like it. And I haven’t even passed it yet. The pain was so bad I couldn’t make it to the emergency room door without collapsing from pain and screaming. I even threw up and couldn’t breathe cause it was that bad. I was wondering, have any of you had one and if so, was it that bad? I can’t tell if I was just overreacting or not but I would rather go through stomach flu for a month than go through that for an hour again They sound awful. Hang in there.

Stones are no doubt painful. I passed one once, ended up in the emergency room with a urinary tract infection. Antibiotics saved the day. BTW, there are other stones that are back breakers ... What was worse. Passing it or when it started to move in the begining? Two different types of pain, both are the two worst pains I have encountered. The pain when going from kidney to bladder is like grabbing a wire with an electrical current and you cannot let go. It is just crippling and can last for 15 - 60 seconds, and you cannot let go and when it stops you pray that it has made it to the bladder and not just found a resting place until more pressure pushes it again, and you get another wave of intense pain! The pain when you are passing them - imagine having shards of glass in your urine and it just cuts its way through until it is out.

I now have a GIF in my head of a cross-section diagram of a penis passing stones down the tube and out the opening. Thanks for that.

Didn't like this movie at all. Even the music was unsatisfactory and Helen Mirren was completely miscast.
Now Colonoscopy was dynamite. Talk about moving!

Wouldn't it be funny if there was a band called the Kidney Stones, kind of the illegitimate children of the Rolling Stones. Or their less talented cousins.

So a little update again lol.
After having the flu for the past week, I was dehydrated and drinking a lot of ginger ale to sooth my tummy,
Well guess what? It caused another kidney stone. The pain was worse this time and as soon as I felt it I know what it was.
Again, I wouldn’t wish this upon my worst enemrny

So an update. I’ve been drinking a lot of water and so far have been lucky. I know the stone is moving but with my pain pills and the medicine to make my tube enlarged so the stone can pass, I haven’t felt pain like I did yesterday, whereas some people I know had to go emergency room multiple times. Tell us more about that medicine to make your tube enlarged...

On a more serious note...where is the pain when it starts? In the lower back?...front side?

On a more serious note...where is the pain when it starts? In the lower back?...front side? This time (TMI folks) started in my left testicle. I think this was residual because the pain then moved all the way to my lower left back side and front. It was definitely the worst in the lower left back. VPB describes it best as holding on to electric wire. Think that but Xs 10. Again, the pain was so intense I vomited. Not even morphine at first was helping. Luckily once again mine is small so passing it shouldn’t be bad, but my doctor said that even at this size, he’s seen grown men and women scream in pain and not be able to function.

My husband has had quite a few. His first one was REALLY bad. We were in the emergency room, he was in serious pain and there were a quite patients ahead of us. So he walked up to the desk, threw up all over the nurse and her desk. They got him in right away. That stone was behind his hip bone, so they couldn’t blast it. Kept him in the hospital for 3-4 days hoping he would pass it. Never did, so they had to go in with a microscopic cherry picker type thing (with a little basket on the end) and scoop it out. He’s had 3-4 blasted-pees sand for few days, and he’s passed a few at home (screams from the bathroom). Yes, they are very painful. Similar, or worse than having a baby, evidently. I was wondering by about that, since men are usually wimpy when it comes to pain since we don't have to deal with child birth.

My female nurse has done both, she said the pains are different pains, but equally as bad. She actually said giving birth less painful for her personally

So just had two kidney stone attacks this month.
Making a serious diet change because of it. I cut out soda, but not really cutting out the salt from my diet. It’s ok in moderation, but my dr said I’m way too young to be getting it like this and a diet change is needed.
This bout today was the worst one yet. I was screaming until I got the morphine basically

Had a small kidney stone detected in my physical last week. Ultrasound person said it’s small, so don’t worry about it. 😰 That's what they say now........ When my dad suffered from kidney stones, I was in college and ended up driving my dad around after his treatment. Man he was miserable. Said he wasn't sure if the treatment was better than the stones. He also had an appointment at the urologist where he saw the then head coach of the Cal men's basketball team in the waiting room.
