Has anyone heard anything about USA Volleyball taxing AVP for the foreign teams/players they let play? Apparently, that’s what the hold up was with the Canadians getting the green light to play. USA wants to ding AVP for international players.
I wonder if it would affect Hawaii.

I have no problem with this, we all saw at Huntington what happens when AVP players have to battle international players, it ain't pretty.

Makes no sense to me. I would guess that any AVP Contract would make it crystal clear that the players are independent contractors and not employees. As a result, the AVP would simply pay the full $5000, or whatever the player wins, to that player, and they are then responsible for their paying their own taxes. So I see no difference, in that respect, between US and international players, but perhaps there is some wacky IRS regulation that I am not aware of. Just my two cents!

Foreign players - in every sport - have been subject to US federal and state taxes for a long time. Win the U.S. Open (tennis) or U.S. Open (golf)? The feds and the state - if the state where the event was played has income tax - are gonna get theirs. This is nothing new, so I don't know exactly why it was a last minute issue with the Canadians.

And not just foreign as in not US citizens. Any athlete that plays in an Arizona event, pays Arizona taxes, for example. The government will get their share, no matter who it is.

Canadian last minute story seems fishy to me. They were listed on the AVP website for at least a week before. Brandie Wilkerson doesn't have any story about last minute ok from Canada. I watched S Pavan's story on youtube bout her split from her previous partner after her toe was broken...I don't trust much out her mouth after that. Like South Park said best #BlameCanada and John Candy said even better #CanadianBeerSucks.

I'd be shocked if that were the case. I know it's been mentioned in the threads before but there aren't too many other options at defender in Canada unless the McNamara twins breakup right?

Whatever "tax" referred to in original post is said to be from USA Volleyball. Has nothing to do with income taxes as many replies have discussed. Income taxes, as mentioned, will be paid on earnings regardless of nationality so this is about something else having to do with foreign player eligibility for domestic tours, though I don't know anything about where these originate from. Could be from FIVB guidelines or something completely internal to USAV. Or as was also mentioned, could be Pavan mystery unto herself.
