You have to feel bad for JMac and his family - plus the team. Hope he can get past this quickly.

Speedy recovery to McLaughlin. One of the true coaching legends who was able to make a difference no matter what school he was at. I remember first hearing about him at Kansas State and he's only gone on to bigger and better things since then.
The collegiate game is losing a great one.

So the new coach has a degree in chemical engineering from Washington? He does? I know Mike a bit from his Cal Poly days, had no idea he was a Ch.E grad.

If this puts Meuth back on the table for 2019, some program is going to get star very late in the game. Not to mention Lindsey Miller, Phyona Schrader, and Paris Thompson. That Sting OH is pretty solid too. But plenty of schools have open schollies for 2020 and for sure 2021...not so much for 2019. Lets hope all these recruits end up staying. We need the ACC and the SEC to stop the poaching of stud recruits by the Big 10 behemoths in the general regional.

"While I work to get my back issues resolved...while I am working to get back to full health..." Sounds like he isn't saying goodbye to coaching. Once he gets squared away he will take over USC after the new coach bombs. You'd have to be a pretty bad coach to bomb at USC. Crouch isn't even close to being that. I guess it depends on how you define "bomb" -- or, more to the point, how the AD defines it.

JMac will now have time for books, video games, and 20 Questions, in between rehab.

I hope they stay. Notre Dame is that kind of school. That's exactly why he took this job in the first place.

I hope they stay. Notre Dame is that kind of school. Don't get me wrong, ND is a fine school, but the hype is greater than the reality. ND doesn't make me sit up and take notice like Stanford, Northwestern, Harvard, Princeton, etc. The athletics gives the school cachet but the academics at ND are aspirational to the aforementioned schools.

You chose some great schools to compare UND to. That in itself says a lot. Sort of an affirmation when you think about it.

There’s academics and there’s culture. ND may be a step below the aforementioned schools, but it’s still a quality Jesuit education. I think the point being made is that the kind of kid who commits to ND is a kid who’s bought into the entire ND experience - campus, academics, athletics, and religion.

It's not even close. Take the big conferences. Michigan, Illinois, Ohio State are better regarded in most academic areas than ND. Cal is heads and shoulders above academically. Those are, along with the aforementioned schools top tier institutions. ND is at the bottom of the top tier.
