I realize this is a nine month old post and probably no one cares any more, but "On the other hand, if you are not able to get out of the pressure-cooker or the high-speed battleground at the age of 55 and “have” to keep on working very hard until the age of 65 or older before your retirement, then you probably will die within 18 months of retirement. By working very hard in the pressure cooker for 10 more years beyond the age of 55, you give up at least 20 years of your life span on average" is absolute nonsense. As an actuary who has worked in the retirement field for decades, I can promise you that average life expectancy for people in the US who retire at 65 is closer to 20 years than 18 months. But you don't have to believe me. Go to the US Social Security Trustees report and look at the life expectancies in that report. In fact people who retire at 55 probably have a shorter life expectancy than those people who turn age 55 and keep working, because a meaningful percentage of people who retire at 55 do so for health reasons. I wish I enjoyed my job enough to work past 55. Mick is in the minority in that he'd like to have kept working. Sad that he wasn't able to, even though I do believe USC needed a change.

One thing is abundantly obvious now (not that it wasn't obvious to some of us before), USC needs to get rid of Lynn Swann.
When there's a posted job opening at most any educational institution, there's a clear list of required qualifications and educational benchmarks. Swann had ZERO experience as an athletic director. He had never even been involved in running a high school or middle school athletic department.
He was hired by moneyed jock-sniffers who were aroused at the thought of hitting the links with the chiseled Trojan BMOC football star. Experience be dammed.
It was like hiring O.J. minus the murders.
The sad thing is, Swann, by all indications is a nice guy. It's not his fault someone gave him a job for which he was totally and wholly unqualified.
It's not at all surprising that a top administrator in his department was running a criminal enterprise right under his NFL nose. The fact that he was unable to resolve the Mick Haley contract issue shouldn't surprise anyone. He had never handled such a matter before. He delegated the matter to an underling who happened to be a crook. So of course it ended with a PR black eye and a multi-million dollar lawsuit that will further tarnish the lofty USC brand.
A handful of fat cats got to tell their trophy wives they golfed with Swannie and he'll speak at their charity fundraiser; but now the entire USC nation is suffering for it

Mick sighting... And he looks healthy and happy, and actually more jovial than I recall. Once this is settled, I would not surprise me to see him back in the college game.

I'm not so sure given his age unless he aims low. Maybe he should just enjoy life, move to Maui and get in on those card games with Don Nelson (former Warriors coach). I mean, an outdoor card game, smoking cigars, sipping cognac or brandy, with Tiki Torches, at a beautiful home overlooking the Kapalua Resort, West Maui, and the Pacific Ocean with Lanai in the backdrop ain't all bad.

If I was Mick, I'd take Uber all over town and keep Ubering until Donna picked me up. Then I'd give her no tip and the crappiest review imaginable, writing something like, "She seems too old to be driving in traffic."
Of course, Mick is a bigger person than me, so he probably won't do that.

Here's an old video (that wasn't posted until last year) of Mick talking about coaching strategies and volleyball in general).. This was taken after the 2011 volleyball season.
My favorite was when he was talking about "building points" and how he can get x amount of kills per set, x amount of aces, etc. But he says "Well, if I can force the other team into service errors".. My immediate thought was, (except by a rowdy crowd) how do you force teams into service errors?? Then I remember when Mick did stuff like "Ask" how many timeouts he have which subsequently iced the server a little bit, and woola! Service error! LOL. I miss him.
You can easily see why certain types of kids could not play for Mick. You can also see why highly-driven ones had success.

Arbitration should be happening soon. Mick's legal team to demand Millions $$$$$$$$ ... we'll see if there is a settlement. We may never know the dollar amount.

Arbitration should be happening soon. Mick's legal team to demand Millions $$$$$$$$ ... we'll see if there is a settlement. We may never know the dollar amount. I think a settlement is likely because of the Heinel connection, but nowhere near millions. Mick initially alleged age discrimination. If, after the disclosures about Heinel's activities, he alleges retaliation, for what was he retaliated against? Retaliation implies he knew of the existence of improprieties, and begs the question of what he knew, did, or didn't do. If he knew nothing about it, there's no basis for retaliation. Absent clear evidence of statements concerning his age which might lead to an award of punitive damages, the best Mick could really expect is the equivalent of a few years salary.
