I know you peeps may no longer care about Shaney Lipscomb, who left the Hawaii team in 2017, but I found an article from 2018 about her new school, Grossmont College, that talks about her at some length and a short youtube clip of the coach who mentioned being fortunate to receive "kickbacks" from Hawaii. (The term was used jokingly.) Lipscomb also is interviewed at around the 3:38 mark. Quite interesting. I swear I thought her facial expression changed a bit when talking about Hawaii, like she was sad about the experience. www.eastcountysports.com/2018/08/12/griffins-ready-to-hang-another-banner/

Toodie Sopi. Robyn may want to sign her asap. She is a beast. She wants to play for Hawaii. But if they dont show interest in her she will go to a mainland school. Her first choice is Hawaii and she had repeatedly told her family that. I emailed the coaches. I just hope they pounce before the others do. Our families are really close. She has some powerhouses already showing interest in her.

I do remember hearing that she left the team soon after the season started, I'm happy that she landed at a school where she could actually see playing time. Sounds like she's looking for another D1 School that she can transfer to. Good luck to her.

Alizaysha "Toodie" Sopi 5'11" OH Kapolei HS Which mainland schools are interested in her? She is a nice local prospect but where would she play? Outside or opposite? One drawback with her is she does not play back row - so she’d be a Tai Manu Olevao type of player. If that’s the case, might as well look into that outside hitter from Waianae too - Tautuaa ... although she’s a junior (vs frosh ). Same body type and power but latter passes and plays backcourt defense.

Maybe Robyn is shying away from 3 rotations OHs and only bringing in those who can play all around. Trinity was a 3 rotations OH and did not fit in. Subbing out an OH every time she rotates to the back row will eat up your number of substitutions you might want to save for later. Unless you have an OPP that can pass, it’s not ideal to sub your OH out. You want your OHs to be an all around players.
Having a 3 rotation OH and a 3 rotation OPP is not the way to go.

I do recall TheNatural stating that Trinity could not hit OOS, but she was the best hitter when we were in-system. If Sopi could hit both in-system and OOS, then I think she is someone who should be considered. With that said, I believe she was only a freshman last season, so I'm hoping that she could work more on her passing and back row defense as she matures through her high school career. I do think she is a player that Hawaii should offer (from the limited time that I've watched her), but we'll see.

I bet you Robyn wants 6-rotation players because she wants to make her team play similarly to the national team. Have the bic and the D ball available all the time. Essentially having 4 hitting options all the time. She knows Iosia is capable of setting that kind of offense, so she probably is looking for hitters to make it happen. Hellvig and Rasmussen are a great first step. If we have Hellvig and Wagoner at OPP and OH2, then there you go. Throw Westerberg and Williams in the middle and you won't be subbing anyone out at all.

I don’t think substitutions are really an issue though - you have like 15 per set I think. That’s a lot! Maybe if you run a 6-2 might you have to watch your subs but if it’s only say one (pin) hitter that’s only used in the front row and subbed in the back row, I don’t see that as a big deal, especially when most NCAA teams do it. And you also better utilize your bench.

I think RAMS takes all these comments like a grain of salt

Probably not "ijits" unless she's a fan of Bobby Singer of the "Supernatural." Me thinks she uses more colorful adjectives from our local dialect. If we are indeed adding BC to the mix, I think we're in decent shape as far as filling all our roster pukas. Kudos to Robyn and her crew for bringing in what looks like a strong class of recruits.

I Seriously doubt that Robyn is using any "colorful adjectives from our local dialect". That'd presuppose that she uses her time reading/paying ANY attention to VT.

Well, the 2000 team had good returning players like Veronica Lima, MB, 6'3", Lily Kahumoku, Jen Carey, and Jessica Sudduth. Among the frosh, only Kim Willoughby and Maja Gustin played. The 2019 team is nowhere near that level as far as the returning players are concerned. Among the returnees, there's no Veronica Lima, Lily Kahumoku, or Jessica Sudduth. The only thing the 2019 team has is Norene Iosia. Willoughby and Gustin were the only frosh starters, but both Villaroman (32 of 33 matches) and Duggins (23 matches) played, with one start each.

Wahine fans, just count your blessing that Michelle Nagamine, Bob Coolen, or Mike Trapasso, are not the Head Coach of the Wahine Volleyball Team. Cause these coaches are clueless when it comes to being a Head Coach. What is worse is the fact the the Hawaii Athletic Department is headed by a Clueless Athletic Director. All Matlin wants to do is sit at his desk and try to look pretty. Like what has he done since he has become the Athletic Director, only extend Head Coaching contracts to Head Coaches who have losing seasons. So Wahine Fans, count your blessing that the Wahine Volleyball team has Robyn Ah-Mow Santos as their Head Coach.
