I just wanted to see if any one knows if UH matches will be streamed and or broadcast? I don't see any thing about it on UH website. Good news. It will be broadcast on Spectrum OC 16....which is the local HS sports channel. If it’s like last season, it will be streamed on Bigwest TV and blacked out in Hawaii(for those who do not have Spectrum). If you have Spectrum, you in luck. Just go to August 30 on the page....go down to 7pm and you will see USD vs Hawaii women volleyball Live. oc16.tv/schedule/And conversely, that may mean bad news if you're in Hawaii and don't have Spectrum and instead have Hawaiian Telcom or some other provider. Or does Spectrum make OC16 available to other providers?

All other seasons were exciting but not at the level of this year. I'm kind of in a fog about the years 2004-2008. LOL! I do remember Sarah Mason, however, and some of the NCAA battles against USC. LOL! Also, looking back, I think the 2010-2013 years were kind of dull even though I love Emily Hartong, Jane Croson, Ali Longo, Sarah Mendoza, and others. I don't know. After Jane Croson left, it was just Emily Emily Emily! I like the multi-pronged attack. 2004 was a multi-pronged attack with Alicia Arnott (4.09 kpg), Susie Boogaard (3.83 kpg), Victoria Prince (3.31 kpg), Tara Hittle (2.63 kpg), Kari Gregory (1.85 kpg) and Juliana Sanders (1.72 kpg). Wow! I didn’t know that Arnott got that many kpg. Although she was a bit undersized, she hit a pretty heavy ball and was crafty as well. If I recall, she didn’t play her senior season. Wasn’t sure if it was because of injuries? It’s too bad bc she was a good one. I really enjoyed her play.

Spectrum does at least let Hawaiian Telcom pick up OC Sports so that is at least something.

And then Sarah Mason came in and stole the show.

6th Know Your Bows: Tiffany Westerberg Also, I'm guessing the Tiffany at the pins may be a very real option considering she said "I'm a hitter"

It's so difficult to predict lineups with so many freshman coming in from all parts of the world. The level of competition could vary significantly. This is why I think the starting lineups on night one will be mainly returnees and transfers.
It won't surprise me to see 1 or 2 players redshirting this year. But I would be surprised to see Choy redshirt. Has UH ever went with only 1 available setter?

She did beat Maja out in the 2003 season opener. Of course, Maja earned the starting job back. Not true. She played in Gustin's place. Her numbers were mediocre at best. I remember the match beween Hawaii and Stanford at the Stanley. She could not put the ball to the floor. He blocking was ok. That was an exciting match to watch, with Kim and Ogonna unloading bombs to the floor. Kahumoku, was the difference maker, the silent killer for the Wahine. IMO, the difference maker in this 2003 match up vs Stanford was Nohea Tano. 13k, 0e. She hit .650 & had 10 digs. Everyone in the building knew that Kim & Lily were gonna get their kills, but Nohea stepped up big time in that match. She was always my favorite Wahine volleyball player, hence my original screen name. Speaking of which I recently seen her & her son Koby out at Ala Moana shopping center, they came into the Starbucks that I work at. 😅

6th Know Your Bows: Tiffany Westerberg Also, I'm guessing the Tiffany at the pins may be a very real option considering she said "I'm a hitter" Not necessarily. Some teams like to use MB on their roster and others like to use MH for theirs. Doesn't mean the players that call themselves hitters are moving to the pin. Its like some team like to use RS for right side hitters and others use OPP. Internationally, some team even label their OH/OPP by calling them Outside Spikers or Wing Spikers. Multiple position titles but same positions. I believe Tiffany will play middle because she is needed there more. From what I've seen from all the highlights, she seems to be hitting middle most if not all of the time. MB is more commonly used but I recalled seeing a few rosters using MH. Maybe Tiffany called herself a "hitter" is because she is more polished as a hitter than as a blocker. m.wikihow.com/Be-a-Middle-Hitter-in-Volleyball

She started every match in 2004, and the first few contests in 2005. She sat out a few matches due to illness. During this time, Houston kind of just took over. Mason and Hittle, who were both injured earlier, had also come back. By the time Arnott was OK to play, she couldn't get her starting job back. She went from No. 1 OH to No. 3 or 4. She was on the team as a redshirt in 2006. Shoji said something along the lines of her working to get back to full health and a starting job in 2007. But she would announce at the end of the season that she was retiring and would not be using her final year of eligibility.

I vaguely remember now her announcement of not returning her final year.

The more offensive minded Middle he would designate as the MH, the other Middle would be the MB. For instance, Middles like Emily Maglio, Victoria Prince, Emily Hartong (when she played Middle), and even Angelica Ljungqvist, were designated MH by Dave Shoji.

I can also see Tiffany Westerberg backing up Hanna Helvig at OPP.
