Wow...I hope Riley is not that fragile that she will take the ball and go home after only one year. How can Riley blame anybody else but herself? Her numbers speaks volume. As for Ross, she have been in the program for 4 years. She may not be better than Wagoner but Ross has the confidence of the coaches because she have proven herself over the four years she lettered. Riley is only a freshman and she needs to earn the coaches' trust.
I hope Riley stays and battle it out but if she is unhappy, then she needs to do what she needs to do. Don't blame the coach. We are a top level volleyball program. Everybody was a star in their HS career. Being a Gatorade POY of your state does not mean you are entitled to continue to play while hitting near 10%.

Look forward to seeing Riley Wagoner transfer for next year. Numbers speak for themselves and she is getting the shaft for favoritism of certain players. There is not one category where Ross is better. Hawaii loses alot without her on the court. They beat the top teams because everyone on the court contributed their best assets. The IQ on this girl is unreal and she shows the most versatility of any player in the gym. If the sets she received from the second best setter on the team forced everyone to think she can't hit, maybe take a look at the balls she was being asked to swing at over and over again. I'm glad she is so none error because with huge blocks, she made the other team play the ball at the very least. She is a smart girl and knows she could receive a better education and maybe better coaching at some of the top Big10 or Pac schools she was getting recruited to. Hawaii is a dream environment and good for her to make what she wanted happen. But I see her taking a long look at what is going on and pondering a move. Iosia has the coaches in a bind. She can't set better than Choy, but now she doesn't come off the floor because she needs to stay warm. Wtf. Her blocking and hitting numbers are sub-par. Definitely not beating any big team with either Ross or Iosia going through the front row. All the coaches do is play the girls with the most attitude...so go ahead, win in the weak conference games, but you won't be going very far post season without your best 6 on the court. Riley could get a way better education at USC, UCLA, Minnesota, Illinois, and get a good look as an Outside Hitter or Libero. If the weather is your number one reason for college in Hawaii ... Ok, but I bet a smart girl who wants the best for herself in school and in volleyball looks elsewhere if she can. C'mon coaches, start improving your players skillsets and not favoriting some show of angry must win attitude that doesn't translate to playing better. You will lose gems like Wagoner fast and the recruitment will get harder once word gets out about what earns playing time. It ain't the actual play because numbers reflect the truth. Hope a tan is worth wasting your talent if Riley she chooses to stay. SMH. Relax brah and hang loose π€ Riley is and will get a lot of playing time. RAM wonβt hesitate to replace struggling players when theyβre having an off night or game. That goes for the local girls too and they know it. RAM chews okole more so when the local girls donβt perform up to their potential. πππ

There's a reason Wagoner wasn't highly recruited by top Power 5 conference teams as a hitter, and correspondingly, why the promise of an opportunity to hit at Hawai'i was appealing to her. Despite her good mechanics, she can't do anything about her height, and it comes down to improving her shot selection and making the most of the talent she has (see Norene Iosia).
Having said that, I think that a reasonable case can be made, perhaps with some exception of the middles, that the coaching staff hasn't completely demonstrated the ability to make improvements in hitting and passing with some of the players, and that there is room for improvement in their training of hitters and setters, and even defense.

C'mon now, Wag's is 3 inches taller than Sickle. Height's not a problem with her.

If JR's toast till next year then I'm going to modify the ideal lineup:
OPP: Vig OH1: BVS OH2: Iosia/Wag M1: Igiede M2: Williams S: Choy L: Iosia/Wag/Gong
Sickle can rise to the occasion.
I'll get very angry if I see Okino on the court again.

Are you really that lazy to type the few extra letters to spell their names appropriately?

I hope Riley stays. If her reason on transferring out is lack of playing time, she was starting in the beginning of the season behind JR and BVS with the modified lineup. When JR went out, she had a chance to step up. When players struggle, they will be benched. See what happened to Hanna during UCD match. I hope she stays.

(Kokyu's other thread) Q: "What should Hawaii do?" (Potential VTers preferred) A: "ban him from UH's fanbase?". THAT might just be the correct answer for Hawaii!
