Some of y’all don’t even deserve to call yourself Hawaii fans.
Was I fustrated last week? Sure. I’m sure the players and Robyn were too. But unlike them, y’all are giving up. Let’s have Faith In Robyn and co and our players that they can right they ship and give us a great season but regardless we should never give up on them!

Going into Spring practice 2019, Robyn will have very few players to work with, which can be a good thing. If the players there take advantage of that fact. Each player will have personalized individual coaching, which they would not have if there were a lot of returning players. If you look at it, one Outside Hitter in Castaneda, one Opposite in Sibley, 2 Middles in Williams and Krug, one Setter in Iosia, and 3 DS/Libero in Okino, Gong, and Ross. The players need to truly take advantage of this fact, and really improve. It is not often that they will have this individual coaching attention by the coaches. We will all see if these returning players truly took advantage of this opportunity by how much they improved come next season.

Well, my mind is already on 2019. Thanks for all your contributions, Seniors. I don't know if any of the current players are transferring out but if they do, best of luck to them.
Time for a new year. New attitudes. New strategies. Most importantly, new blood.

I'm not too sold on the current Defensive Specialists we have for next year's libero role. I was hoping we could snatch up Nalani Iosia at the last second, get one of those back row players from Southern Idaho, or get Riley Wagoner's old teammate Dana Axner.
2020 recruit Georgia Via averages about 6 d/s but she's still a while away.

Wow, I have been busy, so I only just got to watch the Baylor vs. Hawaii match, and we were so close! I was following the match thread, but I never realized that the match was that tight, and I did not pick up that Hawaii was up 2-0, and we could've ended the game in the fourth set. As much as I was disappointed in the result, I am really proud that our girls were able to hang in there against a tough Baylor team. Akiu was the MVP of the match, and Williams was the biggest (and best choice Robyn made for MB2) surprise in the game. I am going to miss all these seniors, and I really wish them the best!
Moving onto the topic of next season, the things I am most excited about are: - The improvement of Williams in the middle. She really had Presley's number in the Baylor match, and she did well blocking against TVW when she was brought into the Cal Poly match. If she works hard, and she hits the weight room in the offseason, I think that she could potentially be better than Burns (as she played this season)! - The improvement of Krug. Right now, Krug is still listed as an outside hitter, and I am interested to see if she will work on transitioning, or possibly be a sort-of dual player that will play anywhere like Castillo. After watching the Pepperdine game, I am excited to see how she will improve. - Who will step it up between Sibley and Castaneda (if any of them do)? Right now, everyone is coming up with starting line-ups that are heavily favoring the incoming freshman recruits, and although they look great, I have no idea how they will perform or how comparable they are to college-level players. In my opinion, the outside hitter and opposite position is up for grabs, so I am hoping that Sibley and Castaneda will battle. Sibley came into this season, and she definitely looked like she worked hard on the offseason, so I am really rooting for her to improve drastically for her senior season. - Where does Ross go? After watching this past season, it does seem that Ross is ahead of both Sibley and Castaneda, but with the incoming recruits, there will be a lot of OH/OPP on the roster, so I am not sure where she will play. She could play at OH, as a DS, or some were even saying as the libero. Next year, I am thinking that she will primarily play as a defensive specialist (I hope she can get her jump serve working), and she will be able to be a good back row attacker. However, I do think she could compete for the OH2 spot, and she may have an outside shot at libero (but I definitely think Okino is ahead of her). - Is Okino our libero? After losing a stud like Akiu, who will step up and take her place? It seems that most of the talk is surrounding Okino/Gong/Ross, or preferably a transfer. To be honest, unlike most fans, I would not be devastated to hear that Okino will be our libero because she has improved DRASTICALLY from last season, and she has played excellent floor defense this past season (not Akiu-level, but pretty good). However, I really hope she improves on her passing (and on making her serve tougher). I really have no idea where to place Gong. Her serves do not seem to be especially difficult, but she always seems to go on serving runs. I really do not know if her floor defense is outstanding because I have only seen her dig a few balls (although her dig kill against Cal Poly was great). Ross is more of a defensive specialist to me (as she can attack from the back row), but if she can get her jump serve to work, she definitely has a better serve than the other two, with decent floor defense (although her passing may need work). - Iosia working to finally show that she be an All-American setter. I am really hoping that Iosia will step up in her setting game, and she will get to run the offense on her own. - Which recruits will come in as advertised? Will any exceed our expectations? Will any fall short of our expectations? As stated earlier, on many Hawaii fans projected line-ups, they are heavily filled with the freshman recruits. I hope they all come in and contribute immediately, but I am not sure how dominant each of them will be. My expectations for the recruits: Wagoner will be in the OH2 and stabilize the passing rotation, Hellvig will be the most consistent hitter with decent passing, Igiede will create competition at the MB position, Westerberg will be a strong candidate at MB and OPP, and Akana will create competition in all of the positions. Predicting at who is most likely to start (in my opinion): Westerberg > Hellvig = Wagoner > Akana = Igiede. I think each have a good argument to start, but it depends on how well they are able to transition. - Transfers? Libero? Backup setter? Proven outside hitter?
I think the battle for different positions will be interesting with the middle blocking battle between Williams/Westerberg/Igiede/Krug/Akana, and the pin hitter battle between Hellvig/Wagoner/Akana/Westerberg/Sibley/Castaneda/Ross/Krug (possibly). With the versatile athletes coming in with Akana and Westerberg, it is nice that they could play and compete for any position. I do think that Akana will probably be more looked at on the pins (with the height we will have in the middle), but I am not sure where Westerberg will be looked at more. A middle duo of Williams and Westerberg could be outstanding, but it would be nice to have height at the opposite position too. It is interesting that after having a small line-up, we could have a taller line-up this coming year. Man, next season could not come fast enough.

I can't wait till next season, where RAMS will have people that can make the team a competitive one. Can see all the new players vying for a spot in the lineup.
