What if, just if, Robyn burned Castaneda’s redshift right after learning of the commitments of that Sweden OH and CANADIAN MB/OPP? She probably realized that Castaneda would have bench on her senior season if she redshirted. Thats how confident Robyn is with her recruits. Interesting, good point, never thought about this. Now you got my brains going. Thanks a lot. lol...

Thank you for starting this thread, but is Hanna Hellvig confirmed to be the player from Sweden? TheNatural said the European outside was a 6'2 OH from Sweden class of 2019, named Hanna (specifically that spelling, which is quite unique). Hellvig hits all those marks. It would be a crazy coincidence for another person to have all those traits. I'd say it's a sure bet. I have no idea if this is the correct Hanna or not, but 1 in every 50 girls in Sweden born from 1995-2005 was named "Hanna", with that spelling. So while you may think that is a unique spelling, Nordic people consider that the normal spelling. (There are over 30,000 Hanna's in Sweden.)

Petition. for ds Bria Beale, that would be. Here is where she is now in this early 2018 season. She landed in the sleepy town, non conducive to larger journalistic, BuzzFeed type hopefuls; this type of major/scholar is needing the bigger city living imho. The United Negro College Fund ... it's terrible to waste !!

Not sure how you got all the info, but I guess we'll just have to see until it surfaces somewhere officially. I'll adjust the initial listing if its not her.

I've known Swedish Hanna's. www.nordicnames.de/wiki/Hanna

In addition to the Asians which obviously surround Hawaii in the South Pacific, and all the Polynesian Islands, I've often thought about Australia.

She probably realized that Castaneda would have bench on her senior season if she redshirted. Thats how confident Robyn is with her recruits. Shoji last night provided some insight on when he considered redshirting; when he knew he had a player that could play in following years, but had solid starters in front of them now. But, it was always up to the player whether they wanted to redshirt. He said most players don't want to redshirt, they want to play four years, graduate in four years, and go on with their lives. Strength of pipeline wasn't mentioned as a consideration.
I'd think that Castaneda would want to try to crack the lineup this year, even if it's just playing garbage time sets. Any court time this year should help make her more competitive next year, and she'll need that. Otherwise, she could wind up a B team player until she graduates or transfers. And, from the coach's perspective, there is little reason to want to redshirt her. Gaskin is about one more poor outing away from losing a starting role, if she isn't there already. This team needs another pin hitter to step it up, this year, now. Depth at the pins, there isn't much this season. Castaneda should be straining at the bit to get court time, any court time.

So, in addition to the original post info (reposted here):

Apparently, there's a rumor that Bailey Choy of Utah may transfer to Hawaii for her senior year. Or is that just wishful thinking?

If Bailey Choy does come back home, UH will continue to run this 6-2. No way Choy coming home to sit on the bench. Robyn would have a PAC 12 level setter on her team and it would be foolish to not use her.
Yeah, it could cost Norene a chance to set full time but unless she shows she can improve her connections in the middle, she is going to have to split time.
I also wonder if Norene do have any aspirations to play for the national team or she may choose to just go pro or even pursue a career on the sand. There are a lot of dynamic setters throughout the country and as of now Norene is not one of them.

She has all the intangibles to be an excellent Sand player. Even though she has not played Sand, yet. Hopefully, she will decide to play Sand, for Hawaii, after she is done with Indoor Volleyball, for Hawaii.

I think she will be a fantastic setter at Hawaii. I'm more excited about Amber Igiede coming in, even more than Wagoner next year. But that's just me

An underclassman setter transfer is in the works I believe. I know next to nothing, was only told that one is coming in next year. Believe from the west coast but I could be wrong
