Some interesting things with this job. First, like mentioned above this has been in discussion for years now. Only reason ODU is moving now is because the conference is making them, so you have to ask how interested are they really and how much are they going to invest in this program. Football is relatively new as a DI sport and has moved up in conferences quickly to try to make a name and get money, this is the focus, but maybe even more then other universities at the Mid-DI level. Looks like the down year is causing some changes in coaches in Football which again is the main focus right now. ODU is tearing down the football field to build a brand new field to fit into CUSA. On a good note however, the basketball teams also got a new practice facility leaving the old facility (which ODU has refurbished)for volleyball and wrestling to use without the Basketball conflict of sharing gyms. ODU could make a hire and be looking again in 3-4 years because I could see this being a stepping stone for many young coaches.

All things considering, Norfolk isn't such a bad place. Love the student section cheer: "We don't drink; We don't smoke; Norfolk; Norfolk!" Did you get this from me? I swear I posted this last year or the year before. Thief.

Old Dominion has booked a charter bus and hotel rooms for their December 2020 trip to State College. You win the Interwebs today. Well done.

I posted this on the jobs thread, but I figured I'd reiterate: Fred Chao was officially introduced at a press conference today. Having spent some time around the ODU athletic department, and knowing a few of those who have been involved in this process, ODU has very clear intentions on competing for CUSA championships in short order. The conference did not force volleyball on ODU, but certainly, adding football (and then moving to FBS) was the impetus for additional women's athletic opportunities. Rest assured, however, they will fully commit to the resources necessary for championship volleyball. They already have the biggest athletic budget in CUSA, but under the current leadership, they wouldn't be adding volleyball if they didn't think they could compete. For example, they are planning to spend $3.4 million to convert their old basketball practice gym to a volleyball facility. The intention is that it will be top notch.

Did they start recruiting players already? If they are as serious about competing as you say they are, would love to see their name on this list : www.triplecrownvolleyball.com/college-coaches-coming.html

I have no idea what events that includes (surely, he's aware of the event, since his former employer is going to be there). I'm not sure he even has email set up, at this point, but I'm sure you could reach out to him via someone on the ODU Athletics staff.
