That's a little mind-blowing to me. I can't imagine the government having authority in sports. How strange. That's China. That is how it works over there. They copied the sport system from the Soviet Union and one of the legacy of that is strong central authority over athletic development and the careers of individual players. Sports is politics for some governments. A display of national prestige and power. Therefore, it is natural for some of them (especially the non-Western countries) to exercise a degree of control and authority that would be hard to imagine for Americans.

KAMEROĞLU will be facing Vakifbank in around...two hours. Sorry, but I think Vakifbank with Zhu Ting, Lonneke Slöetjes, Kelsey Robinson and others are going to beat Kameroglu:

Drews only plays well against weak teams, against the good teams she`s a no show. (Like Carlini) ....Hunter does not use the middles, but I think Lee`s poor reception could be the reason why.

Semifinals of Turkish Cup (not league championships): Ezc beats Gala 3-2 Fener bears Vakif 3-2
I watched the second match, both Robinson and Bricio struggled heavily for their respective teams. Robinson can’t get kills at this level whilst Bricio can’t pass. Bricio was replaced by Dobriana Rabadzhieva in the final set whilst Fatma Yildrim (FSU) was their star local hero for the day. Vargas is a beast on the right as well. Vakif needs to get more sets to Zhu and more consistent play from Sloetjes, a lot of the pin struggles on the day could be attributed to the passing and setting.

Turkish Cup 2019 semi-finals
Fenerbache versus Vakif. This is being touted as one of the best matches in Turkey this season. It's a five set thriller. Remember that in Turkish league play only 3 foreigners can be on the floor at one time as opposed to CL play where there are no limitations. So the teams have a slightly different feel from what we are seeing in the CL playoffs. This match is a precurser to what should be a titanic struggle between Imoco and Fenerbache coming up in the CL semi's. It also points to the fact that Vakif is not the powerhouse it was last year.

Fenerbache vs ECZ Live now. Link: www.trtspor.com.tr/canli-yayin-izle/trt-spor-159/This is the finals of the Turkish Cup, a midseason trophy second to the final tournament. Fenerbache yesterday upset Vakif in a five set thriller. ECZ defeated Gala. 19 year old Cuban, Melissa Vargas, has emerged this season to be considered one of the elite OP's on par with Bosko and Egonu. In a wierd parallel she has recieved the Hooker Treatment from the Cuban national team and is estranged from her home country. There is already talk of extending Turkish citizenship to her to give her a path to play NT volleyball. This is a trend more common in Europe for superstar players then in the US except possibly in track. Fenerbache recent surge adds flavor to the upcoming semi-final CL battle with Imoco. The pairing of Bricio and Vargas has grown to lethel weapon status. Fenerbache takes the first set 25-23

Boskovic with 22 kills, hitting .450, Larson with 11 kills hitting .375 (and 4 aces), and KYK who came on in the 2nd, with 12 kills hitting .526 (!!!). Vargas was brought back down to Earth hitting .175 with 15 kills and Bricio hit .225 with 12 kills. Nice to see Eczacibasi bounce back after their CEV defeat. Ezgi seems to have won the starting setting role which is probably the best move since Gamze always seems to struggle with location.

So I am hearing persistent rumors that Zhu will be leaving Vakifbank. Now I am hearing rumors that Lonneke Slöetjes will also be leaving Vakifbank and move to the Chinese League? Apparently sources are saying some team, said to be Tianjin, is willing to splash big dollars to get Sloetjes. Any confirmation to this story?
