Jiangsu is not having a great stretch, with back-to-back losses to Tianjin and Shandong and now Shanghai. And don't forget Jiangsu won the league championship just two seasons ago. The slide in performance is quite noticeable. Hui Ruoqi's retirement seems to have a big impact on the team. Hui was definitely the glue that held the team together. Last season, they barely got by winning 3rd place thanks to the help of Yuan Xinyue and Li Jing who transferred to the team. This year they lack a dominant middle blocker, which is one of the reasons the had to move Xu Ruoya who is normally an outside attacker to the middle position. Also Zhang Changning has not fully recovered yet and is still wearing that knee brace.

She may need more time to feel comfortable in her new position.

Shanghai (Kelly Murphy) vs Beijing (Tori Dixon, Madi Kingdon, and Rachel Rourke) Entering the last four, my guest is Tianjin (who else), Shanghai, Jiangsu and the final one...either Liaoning or Beijing. Nice to know Jiangsu has recovered from their bout of earlier losses, and once again are contenders for the championships. Tianjin or Shanghai are still the favorites, but it gets real boring to see them win all the time, it would be nice for another team to win for a change.

Hope they can get that last spot. Liaoning is nice, but I have a preference for Jiangsu, they climbed back from a series of losses to get back into contention for the final 4.

Jiangsu vs Liaoning:
Jiangsu's victory should get them into the final 4 and Liaoning needs a victory to keep their hopes alive.
Another match-up between two top teams in the league, Shanghai vs Tianjin:

Li Yingying was the key for Tianjin taking the 4th set. Shanghai's passing fell in the 5th set causing error after error and their second setter was not prepared. Looks like 17 year old Wang Yizhu is slowly getting comfortable playing in the league.
Another 5 set thriller, Beijing vs Guangdong 2:3 (25-20, 20-25, 17-25, 25-16, 14-16)
Beijing (Points): Ren Kaiyi (OH) 19, Rachel Rourke (OP) 16, Tori Dixon (MB) 13, Madi Kingdon (OH) 2 Guangdong (Points): Tandara Caixeta (OP) 25, Dobriana Rabadzhieva (OH) 23, Li Yao (OH) 17
Kingdon’s passing has not improved which puts her back on the bench. Tandaras injury was unfortunate, but glad to see her playing again. She said in an interview that she would like to come back and play in China in the future.
Current Rankings (top 4) (1)Tianjin: 32 Shanghai: 26 Beijing: 25 Jiangsu: 25
Tianjin locked at #1 will compete against the 4th ranked team in the semifinals, whoever that may be. Last match before semis is on January 22, Beijing vs Jiangsu and Liaoning vs Shanghai.

Question: I’m visiting Beijing later in February, does anyone know if there is an English schedule anywhere?

In the past, and possibly currently as well, farmers do have exception...specially if they have daughters. So they can keep trying till they have a son to help them with farm work? Ihave a very conflicted view of China. It is corrupt AF. We think we have it bad in the states. It makes it difficult for me to enjoy their atheletes but I try. I think the most recent stat was 1 in 5 is female. Having said, I wouldn't have my beautiful D without them so like I said I'm conflicted. She's a hell of a player to, even saying that as a father

I know some Japanese and Chinese, but far from fluent.

Having said, I wouldn't have my beautiful D without them so like I said I'm conflicted. She's a hell of a player to, even saying that as a father China has abandoned the one child policy (and may soon abandon the two child policy as well) because of declining birth rates, so tragic incidents of infantcides or child abandonment in rural China should hopefully become a thing of the past, or at the very least, decrease. As will the corruption by paying bribes to allow a second child. Either way, China may way follow the path of Japan in becoming a rapidly ageing society. Only difference is that China may grow old before it grows rich to the standards of a developed country.
