The Sr, Jr and Youth programs are kept very separate in Canada - different training locations, timelines etc. Out of three years that I have been keeping track, the Jr Team scrimmaged the Sr team only once and the coach was not even in sight. Maybe that's why the "former coach" is the "former coach" and they hired a new coach. He can own Canada if he wants, like Coach K owns USA basketball. So unless Tom actually makes an effort to search out and see the Top U16-U18 athletes, he will never see them. Besides by then he would have finished his recruiting classes anyway, those girls would be too “old” Parker Austin committed a year ago, even though by your definition she "would be too old" . Very true, but most Canadian kids don’t start their recruiting till late grade 11 and most not till grade 12. By then the US programs have already filled their recruiting classes. Only those that actively pursue the US (and are diligent and stubborn) generally start looking earlier, and many get discouraged by “sorry out recruiting class is already full” and decide to stay in Canada. Maybe with the new rules on the horizon that will change.

Glad Austin and other high level recruits are choosing UNC given the unfortunate events the past 2 years. I think they can be part of a special turn around.

I've come to understand that I'm not good at predicting the future with this stuff. The only thing I've seen so far is part of a spring tournament. I thinks it's best to wait to declare a given team good, great, etc. until they've played an actual match. Spring matches are a lot like spring training in baseball; at best, they have very limited predictive value.
I have similar feelings about recruiting, though I'm maybe even more careful. Until a player actually plays in college matches, we really don't know that much. Too much is made of recruiting classes prior to enrollment and far too little is made of what happened 4 years later.
In the last 2 years, UNC has lost to every ACC school. This included getting swept by BC, Clemson, and Virginia. Once it's clear that those things aren't going to happen again, I'm willing to start talking about "great", top 4 in the ACC, etc.
I caution that after the Minnesota match last year, Destiny Cox looked like she was going to be a lock for ACC freshman of the year. I also don't think anyone anticipated that Atherton would be in the bottom half of setters in the conference last year. I do think both should have significantly better seasons this year. I'm just saying that judging these things too early leaves one very vulnerable to confirmation bias.

I like all of our pieces and how they are coming together, but its hard to tell what specific opponents will do on their side of the net. Interesting to see the schedule as well. Wonder if we will end up playing Tennessee since we did not play them this spring.....or Florida. So far we know Wisconsin then Minnesota the first weekend.

I remember we used to play Florida every spring and then the year we played them in the SEC/ACC challenge we did not because we would see them in the fall. Must be a change in our spring rotation. Tennessee we played last spring but not this....so that could be interesting to me.

IMO. A possible candidate for ACC FOY and will make an immediate impact for the Heels.

Let us know how she does! So excited to watch her in Carolina Blue! . Seems that things are rolling along nicely - saw some action in Washington and it was great scrimmage hosted by Lynden Christian school, they did a great job, some of their alumni now play for U of Washington. Good crowd came out to support. NextGen Team Canada is coached by ex Team Australia women’s coach Shannon Winzer under coach Black and players are developing nicely, adjusting to speed and size of the competition. Parker looked strong and unintimidated. IMO Training with this team at this level will make her more than ready for college volleyball.

"We open up the season with our Blue & White Scrimmage," Sagula said. "With our squad of 18, ...." 18? Who's out? It supposed to be 19, right ?
