I agree with this for the most part. I think if Scoles had not gotten injured and would have stayed, Borup and Carlton would have stayed as well. It was obvious on the court and off the court those three were incredibly close and I think Julia was the anchor of that group.
The question is would Julia have stayed without Eve? I think being a local kid, as well as her desire to not go to the Penn State's of the world because she'd rather beat them, you could argue she would have stayed. But, you just never know.
Regardless, even if those three had stayed, I think there were more fundamental issues within the program this year with a brand-new coaching staff, etc., that with all that talent this season, we may not have quite lived up to those expectations.
We talk a lot about Scoles, Borup and Carlton, but losing Fields was incredibly impactful to our program as well. When healthy, she was a game changer. And we certainly could have used her defense this year.

I think it's weird that Eve is dating/pregnant by one of her old players boyfriends.

The question is who becomes that new glue? Seemed to be lacking this season. I have a strong hunch it will be Atherton emerging, Skky Howard (she is so energetic and enthusiastic), or Harrison (steady but can get fired up). That will be important to establish quickly this off season.

I wonder about that too. I don’t know if I see Atherton fitting that mold though. I was a little surprised at how little leadership during the matches I saw from her - talking to the team after points, etc.
I think it’s more likely to be someone new because none of our returner players really seem to have that quality.

Bell going to Tennessee, :< I don't know in what terms are Eve and Joe but this looks bad on Eve, Tennessee coaching staff and Bell.

While not super common it's not unheard of for players to follow coaches.

I am just glad that Bell gave it a try with Joe and Carolina for a year instead of jumping ship immediately when Eve left and seeing if she could go with. I know NLI was signed but athletes now can get out of those. Glad she tried it for a year. Eve recruited the current players so its kind of not a shock she would want to go with who recruited her. I do still think that it looks odd to see Eve, Tyler, Gavin, and a Carolina recruit at Tenn. I get it and Eve is awesome but it does look a certain way. I also do not know what terms Eve and Joe are on as well....But these transactions are part of the business.
She will be a starter for Tenn but she has some growing to do before she is as good as Treiber, but the potential is there. That just opens the room for Howard to start. UNC will miss her but I think they will be fine and much improved.

Dennis Punzel, who does some good reporting on the Badgers for the Madison papers, reported that the Badgers will open the season in Chapel Hill against UNC and FSU.

B1G/ACC Challenge to be played at Carmichael. I expect Wisconsin to be even better next year, Minnesota has all their hitters but need a good setter, UNC will be better, and FSU will need to find some big pieces to fill on the Outside, Setter, RS. Could be a good weekend in Chapel Hill

Bell to Tennessee is pretty much what we all thought would happen. Definitely demonstrates the level of influence Eve had. It also doesn't hurt that Tenn had a great year and a MB spot is open for her to slide into. Just perfect symmetry really. I don't see anything wrong whatsoever with this. Keeping my eye on Harrison now.
Great news about the ACC/B1G challenge next year... I was at the one in 2016 where UNC beat Wisc, will be a fun weekend.
Interesting transfers around the ACC as ell. Sloan moving to Indiana from Louisville, Meyer leaving Duke... and the season technically isn't over yet!

2018: 8-19 Final Record: UNC loses Eve Rackham, Gavin Watt, and Tyler Adams to Tenn; Scoles, Borup, Calrton, Fields, Leath all transfer. Start with #8 recruiting class. Lose Harrison (#22 Recruit) to injury. Bring in Atherton, Tontai, and Wine. Susan Clements and Mike Schall replace assistant coaches. NO ACC picks, no NCAA or NIVC qualifications, and finished tied for last in the conference. Lose to Graduation: Madison Laufenburg (RS), Casey Jacobs (DS), Kendra Koetter (S) Lose to Transfer: Ava Bell (Led UNC in hitting percentage during ACC play), ? Sorry to hear about all these injuries and transfer to UNC. I haven’t really followed the team much but was surprised by this mass exodus. What really happened to cause all the transfer?
