Congratulations to Sagula! I think that if they can get Cox adjusted to the higher level of college play and Atherton to be a more vocal leader and zero in on a couple of great defensive players with a good read on the game & vocal and physically reactive there's a chance to really turn this team around in the next season or two.
I think the issue is on-the-court leadership. I'll be honest, I am not sold on Atherton but that may be some personal bias that I don't even understand. I think Jacobs' enthusiasm and on court presence will be missed, there's something about her that seemed to unite the team when she was on the court. I think that there are players that just make their teammates rise up to be better players. Maybe it's an intangible but I could swear that I saw it this past season when Jacobs was there. Senior leadership, perhaps? Idk.

Congrats to Joe. 29 years on one yer contracts, he finally gets a few years security. Is it guaranteed? Means nothing without guarantees, only window dressing. If you are on a roll, a coach would do one year deals. Who gets guaranteed money in volleyball? Maybe not the position, but the money would be. Otherwise, why make it a 5-yr contract?

Senior leadership, perhaps? Idk. Agreed. All the pieces are there for this season barring health and transfers. But I do think that either a setter or libero need to be a vocal leader and one of them need to grow into that role this year. If you look at the potential roster, there should be tremendous talent on the pins, good depth in the middle, and solid defense. But the intangibles must bring it together.

Nice to see Heels have begun spring practice. Seems like everyone is in attendance including Lauren Harrison and Skyy Howard. Should be a good spring.

Good to hear. Time to get a vocal back row leader in there and we'll be set. Mia seems sweet but she needs to step it up, read and share the game from her back row vantage point.

Atherton needs to step up the leadership.
Teams flounder when there is a leader that is not one with THEIR position. They need confidence and verbal presence.

I saw former N.C. Gatorade POY and top-30 recruit OH Taylor Rowland is transferring from Auburn. Any chance UNC makes a run at her? I know we are super deep, but in-state talent is important.

Rowland transferring is a big surprise... she committed to Auburn her Freshman year I believe and never considered anywhere else.
There is a mass exodus going on at Auburn.
The Heels would have to have a scholarship available for her - I don't know if one is open or if they would try and move things around for her if she was interested.
You have to at least make contact though...

There will be 6 pins already on the roster so it may be hard to make that work. I definitely could see NC State going after her since they have an opening on the left side.

I'm not sure about this one. imo, the bigger need is defensive. A six rotation left would help or a middle who can both block and hit. The team has plenty of North Carolina players. They also have a bunch of perfectly good lefts. fwiw, I'm not sure that Rowland would be an improvement over Cox, Harrison, Wine, Lagarde. I haven't seen Parker Austin or Peck.
I don't think the issue for UNC is the level of physical talent. Though some may disagree with me about that overall,I just don't see it as an issue on the outside.

IMO... Rowland would be ahead of Wine, Lagarde, and Peck. Haven't seen much of Austin but from what I've seen she can be special. Definitely would put Rowland in the top 4.
However I do agree about the biggest need at defense. There are two commits on the board that seem to be promising (Wurl & Diaz), but since they haven't signed (to my knowledge) I'm not counting on them yet.

Not familiar with all of the OHs except Cox and Wine at UNC, but watched Taylor R for years in the USA pipeline and thought she was the best passer of all of the lefts when I watched her play until Madi Kubik joined that group. She's also a solid defender in addition to having nice physicality. In my mind, she is a definite six-rotation gem that would add to any roster. Just my two cents.

So many Pin options, so little playtime, good problem to have.
