When are the expected spring scrimmages? Does anyone know yet? Normally middle of March or so and they have weekend tournaments through end of April. I am sure the last one will be at UNC, normally in the Dean Dome.

State Gatorade Player of the Year Awards. UNC recruit form South Carolina , Sophie Fischer, 6-5, Jr., OH/MB, Nation Ford HS takes her home state honors, winning the honor for 2018. She is a 2020 recruit. I saw her play two weekends ago at MLK Southern Dream. Watching her go against Jacque Bowie, A5 16-1 and Michigan Commit, was a lot of fun. Carolina Rouge won that match, but couldn't get by the A5 17-1s team losing to them both times in 3 sets.

Say, does anyone know if UNC will be participating and/or hosting the Big 10/ACC challenge this year?

Say, does anyone know if UNC will be participating and/or hosting the Big 10/ACC challenge this year? Yes... my understanding is we are hosting this year. I believe Wisc and Minny are coming along with Louisville FSU.
Most likely scheduled for end of August (weekend of the 24th or 31st would be my guess).

I know Sagula was planning to have his stud 2016 class in tact, but this is definitely throwing the Heels immediately into the fire, facing probably two top 10 preseason teams who are final four contenders. We will see if this team grows and meshes over the spring, very quickly.

Minny loses SSS (which is a big deal) so Setter should be interesting for them next year. Kylie Miller transfers in from UCLA and probably is the front runner to start. Everyone else of significance from last season returns.
Wisc loses T. Williams in the Middle but otherwise brings back everyone else. They also have 3 UA All-Americans signed (including a MB).

Replacing SSS is a huge deal as you said. She made her hitters better and took a lot of poor passes and made them fabulous sets. Her leadership also leaves. I think the first weekend without her is going to be an eye opener. But you are right, Samedy and Hart will lead a strong offensive core and McGraw is fantastic.
Wisconsin has all the talent in the world, but they need Haggerty to play like her old self. She was getting there towards the end of last season. They also need consistency from Loberg. Otherwise, Retke and Duello are solid. They will field a good team but need more overall balance.
I would love to see UNC defend their home court and at least show growth by challenging these teams and not allowing sweeps. Im hoping for one upset but that is optimistic as well. UNC returns and brings in a ton of talent, so I think we see a vastly different team this year, starting in the spring. Until then, cant really predict what they will look like.

I really think Peck ends up redshirting; she has potential to grow into a great player but may need time behind the other players. While I think Rowand would add some tremendous ball control and is a great hitter, I do not think she is needed. Saw Peck at Music City Qualifier. Would be shocked if she didn’t see significant playing time on the right side next year. Not many club teams running the D ball like she does, and she has a lot of variety with her shots.

Peck looks like a completely different player this spring....I have no idea unless its different coaching, renewed confidence, change in form.....but she has been lighting it up. I do think she may be a tad undersized and not as sharp of a blocker to be a RS but her offense is there. It will be interesting if they use her this year or where they use her.

I believe it’s just her second year with that club, and agreed, she has made huge strides since early last year!

Just my opinion, but she went from a practice player/back up to a player that could do very well in the ACC and compete for a spot immediately. The pin depth is shaping up to be fun.

Honestly asking, have you even seen Peck play live? I believe she was a recruit of the new staff and since at least last club season it was very apparent that she had all the athletic potential to be an ACC-caliber player (albeit a late bloomer).

Peck always had the physical tools. I've watched her on and off since she moved to the Charlotte area in 8th grade (I believe) - my daughter played at CJV when Peck joined. Peck switched to CUVC her Junior year after leaving CJV in part due to, let's just call it entitlement issues with her and a couple other players. She has grown considerably the past two years at CUVC so something clicked with her or with coaching or with both.
She didn't play HS ball this past Fall so it's good to hear she hasn't lost much of a step this club season. I still think she should be redshirted given the talent at the pins but I guess we will see.
