Huge contract. Nike would have had to pay us more than they give Oregon to match it. There was always something a little odd about Phil Knight's company being the athletic apparel sponsor for one of Oregon's rivals.

Emotionally, it wasn't hard to start this thread at all. I'm genuinely excited to see how the team progresses next year. This is a fairly stark contrast with the last two or three years, where it felt like the Huskies underachieved relative to their potential. My sense is this team is going to keep getting better over the next two or three years at least. I just found this thread and nice write up I should say. "This is a fairly stark contrast with the last two or three years, where it felt like the Huskies underachieved relative to their potential." I was thinking given the steady progression of improvement of the likes of Bajema, Niece and McPearson that Cook is more of a grooming coach vs a JMac who was more of a recruit ready for prime time coach. JMacs kids never seemed to evolve much over the course of their UW careers the way Cook's kids do, that is JMac's kids came in highly decorated and were as ready as they would ever be upon arrival. Does that seem like a fare assessment? It will be interesting to see Powell's, Hoffman's, Crenshaw's and etc's, hopefully, continued growth.

I think it is really hard to say JMacs kids never seemed to evolve much over the course of their UW careers. Jim had a long tenure at UW and I am sure there are non-top recruit type of kids that blossomed at UW. A few examples include: Kaleigh Nelson, Bianca Rowland, Candace Lee

I was thinking of Jones, Swann, Scambray and etc, I remember them all being top 25 like recruits. To me they seemed to have plateaued early in their careers. Sure, a lot of it could have been due to injuries and position changes. I just never sensed the growth in these players that you would expect over 4 years. Maybe there just wasn't room for growth? I guess the thing I want to emphasis is how impressed I am with the growth of Niece, McPearson and Bajema. I think they have all become legitimate top tier Pac performers, all achieving it with a noticeable gradual progression, imho.

I was thinking of Jones, Swann, Scambray and etc Jones, Schwan, and Scambray are all terrible examples for your argument, because they came into the program as freshmen under McLaughlin and finished the last three years under Cook, so how the heck are they examples of McLaughlin not developing them except in the sense of "by leaving to coach somewhere else"? Also, Schwan went from "44 sets played" as a freshman to "PAC 12 POY" as a junior, but you think she didn't show any development?

I'm not saying they didn't show any development, I'm saying they had less room for growth. I was impressed with Schwan, Scambray and others from day one. McPearson, Niece and even Bajema not so much.

Did you watch the UW's most highly rated recruit ever, Krista Vansant, go from a freshman with a lot of potential to National POY? It seems like you didn't.

If I recall correctly, wasn't she national high school senior of the year also? If you are seriously trying to claim there was very little development for Vansant between freshman and senior year in college, you must not have been watching.
