They're definitely good this year. But don't get cocky, kid. It's not wise to hope you get paired with a B1G team in the playoffs. Remember 2017 in Seattle.

With as many teams as the top conferences get in the tournament, it’s pretty likely that an at large advancing past the 2nd round will run into a big 10 team.

My biggest concern re the WSU lost was just execution. Unlike the Hawaii match where we just looked really flat and energy-less, with WSU we just never found our game and didn’t execute. Those were both winnable matches for us, and we lost for different reasons. I’m watching the Stanford match now. I think c4ndlelight was spot on in saying that if Washington gets in a groove and executes, they can roll. It's the biggest reason why I thought they'd be 2nd in the conference this year (also because I thought the schedule favored us, skipping Stanford) and a final four threat. But they need to stay in their groove and execute. I don't think they have the ceiling/talent to win tough matches when they aren't running their game plan. That is what we saw against WSU. With Hawaii, they just had no energy, it was the first week of the season, I dunno, but WSU was purely about lack of execution.

Wisconsin's conclusive win over Penn St. last night (10/2) serves further testament that the Huskies might be something special this year. Our own conclusive wins over Creighton, the aforementioned Wisconsin, and Stanford show that this year's team has the necessary talent and chemistry to beat even the best teams in the nation. Yes, I know . . . it's earrllleeee. Easy boy, . . . easy.

Good resurgence for the Huskies! Not implying they had a bad season last year but they are definitely on a run this year.

I like Hailey's articles, but that you have fewer aces and more service errors than your opponent doesn't mean that you've lost the serve game. Apart from that, UW was passing dimes, while Stanford was chasing out-of-system balls all match long.

Well at this rate if the UW keeps splitting every weekend they will finish at 19-11. That's 4 more losses than I pegged them for. The only weekends I feel confident in them not splitting would be the UA and ASU weekends. That would put them at 21-9 which is getting better but not a top seed generator. Hopefully the Big also continues to cannibalizes itself, the Pac is going to need all the help it can get.

Maria's performance against UCLA puts her in the picture for Opposite next season, with Drechsel and Hoffman on the left.

Kind of a strange start for the Huskies. They have losses against a rival in a tough venue (Washington State) and teams that are inconsistent but have upside (Hawai'i and USC), in addition to good wins at Stanford, at Creighton, versus San Diego and Illinois, and the two over Wisconsin that are looking a lot better after the week the Badgers had. Not playing Stanford at home takes away a chance at an impressive win, but they may be favored in all their scheduled matches before the tournament.

Last night, Cook substituted Dani Cole at OH (for Claire Hoffman), getting an emphatic slam for a kill. Has she been practicing at OH or was this a spur of the moment thing (a hitter is a hitter, so it shouldn't matter what side she's hitting on)? Cook might be looking forward to next year, with Bajema graduated. Cole has the athletic ability, hops, and high contact point to maybe be a "hammer" on the left. Crenshaw could play as a six rotation OPP or even maybe end up at libero (cue debate on short vs. tall liberos)? Can we please stop this Crenshaw as libero thing 😐. Cook needs to find a schollie for a real libero/DS next year, that is clear to pretty much anyone that follows Washington volleyball. We don’t need a converted OH to run our backcourt.

Next year is next year. I'm more interested in next week, when finally the Huskies will be back home again. I hope to be able to go to both matches.
