UW seasons have been littered with tough weekends at Utah and Colorado. As I'm sitting here at the elevation of 17,000 ft thinking about all the times UW teams have lost away games to the high altitude schools I wonder if an international educational experience for a week in the Andes wouldn't help prep the dawgs before these matches. It would be nice to see the opposition gassed for a change.

At altitude, the court is effectively smaller than it is at sea level.

At altitude, the court is effectively smaller than it is at sea level. "The loss of sleep from altitude sickness can make you feel tired faster; however, your fatigue is mostly likely caused by reduced air pressure and lower oxygen concentration. According to Rick Curtis of Princeton University’s Outdoor Action Guide, you breathe roughly 40 percent fewer oxygen molecules per breath at 12,000 feet than at sea level. Your body still needs the same amount of oxygen to function and must adjust to the reduced oxygen levels.....about 20 percent of sufferers will have symptoms at between 6,300 to 9,700 feet, according to PubMed Health" Boulder is just under 6000 ft so probably not too bad.

It is always tough to beat Utah in Salt Lake City. Utah's only loss in the state of Utah this season was to BYU in SLC (3-1).
Colorado is also traditionally tough at home, but has been a poor road team since I started paying attention about seven years ago. This year, Colorado has lost three matches at home: USC, UCLA, and Colorado State (which also beat the Buffs in Ft. Collins).
I expect a very tough match in Salt Lake; if I had to pick, I'd probably pick the Utes to win. If so, I would expect the Huskies to beat the Buffs in Boulder.

Ugh, Drake is like a cancer on our SOS. They were 21-15 last year, this year they are projected to finish 10-21.....gag.

Defensive: Shayne McPherson, SR, LB, Washington (Seattle, Wash.) 1.63 APS, 5.50 DPS, 1 SA • Led No. 10 Washington to defeat Arizona State (3-1) and Arizona (3-1) last week. • Helped Washington post its two highest digging totals of the season, leading the team with 19 digs against the Sun Devils and 25 versus Arizona. • Held the Arizona schools to a combined .146 attack percentage on the week, limiting the Wildcats to a season-low .080 percentage. • Collects her first-career defensive player of the week award, and the 71st all-time weekly honor for the Huskies.

My prediction this summer that McPherson would win all-pac is not looking so bad now is it. Sure she's not #1 at digging but her combo of setting and ground patrol makes her special. If she could win a few more of these then she's golden.

If Shayne keeps going the way she is going......

% of teams a/s d/s mcpherson 10.7% 28% hentz 9.5% 32%
Shayne is responsible for more of her teams assist whereas hentz has the digs. Shayne has a slight edge on serving %.

In the full context of all teams and their RPI’s, no. But at the margins, yes, for your opponents record (which is 50%) of the input. One team having a mid 50’s win percentage rather than a low 30’s win percentage could mean the difference of a few spots in the RPI rank. A few spots in the RPI rank could mean the difference of a seed or no seed, a bid or no bid. A non conference opponent having a 21-15 record versus a 10-21 record does matter for Washington at the margins.

Hentz would have to break her leg or something before she lost the vote for PAC LOY. Yes, but they can have two Ls can't they. If Shayne keeps going the way she is going...... They could have two liberos on the All-PAC team, but they won't. Some years they haven't had any. Also, some other teams would argue that Shayne isn't even the second-best libero in the conference. I mean, I like Shayne's play a lot, and have been saying so for four years now. And I agree, she is fantastic as the fallback setter. But I just don't see this as happening. Guess we'll find out. I'd like to be wrong on this.
