Watching both the Utah and Colorado matches, it was a little surprising to see so many 2nd contacts where two UW players were getting in each others way to make a bump set. Especially the CU match, where the crowd was small and on-court communication wasn't a problem.
I realize that can happen, but it seemed to be a very consistent issue that led to a lot of poor sets. It's also something I'm not used to seeing so often. Am I off base in this? And how does a coach fix that?

One change Cook made vs Colorado was to "start" Dani Cole frontrow at OH2 (Crenshaw started in the backrow, so was the official starter). She started out 4k/1e/5ta (.600) up until 20-17 in the 2nd set, but finished 0k/3e/3ta (-1.000), for a total of 4k/4e/8ta (.000). Not sure if the quality of her sets declined, the Buffs started timing/anticipating her, or she started to rush her approach. She did have a .500 kill percentage. So, both promising and somewhat less than promising.
Regardless, I expect this lineup to continue until Hoffman comes back. We need someone at OH2 who'll draw the attention of blockers.

I think the Huskies have been pressing and trying to compensate too much.

I know people have been fretting, and there are some valid reasons for that. But:
As I pointed out in the PAC-12 thread, the Huskies have now played Stanford, USC, UCLA, WSU, and Utah all on the road, and have gone 2-3 against them. They now look ahead to USC, UCLA, WSU, Utah, and Cal all at home. I would argue that they have gone through the toughest stretch of the season, done it injured, and have come out ranked in the top-10, almost assured of a seed in the tournament, and tied for second in the conference.
There are a lot of reasons to expect the season to only get better. I hope Hoffman returns, but it's obvious this was no minor injury. Even if she doesn't, this is a good team with good players and good coaching, and I expect they will have a good last part of the season.

I know this is not about 2019, but I couldn't find the Future of Washington thread... It looks like Washington got a verbal from Emoni Bush, who represented Canada in this year's FIVB 18 and under World Championships.

Washington’s regional host chances are still alive but I think we need to win out and surely pick up wins against UCLA, Utah, and Cal, who stand the best chance of finishing in the top 25 wins. If we pick up those wins, and don’t lose more than 1 more time on the year I think we have a decent chance.

Yeah but ... given the losses the Dawgs have already, I think their chances of running out the rest of the way are quite low. I would love it if they did, whether or not they get a top-4 seeding. I miss seeing Regional action live here in Hec Ed. I do not like the current policy for determining regional hosts. I still don't think teams should be allowed to host regionals two years in a row, or to host them in the same year they are hosting the Final Four. We already saw just last year where Minnesota had a shot of playing essentially at home all six matches of the tournament.

Hi! UW fan here, been lurking for a couple years but finally decided to make an account.
If Hoffman is out for the rest of the season, will she qualify for a redshirt? or if she's still out for a couple more weeks, would it smart for her to take a red shirt? not sure what the rules are for red shirting

For a regular redshirt, playing in even one match disqualifies. For a medical exemption, it requires a season-ending injury with no more than 30% of the matches played. 30% is 9 matches.
