I think Nebraska definitely has the edge in this one. It’ll take a really good match from Illinois to win. The first time they played Illinois wasn’t ready mentally. Passing and defense was terrible. Illinois beating Nebraska earlier in the season was truly the best match I’ve seen any Illini team play ever. I just don’t think they can do that again. Although I obviously want them to. Nebraska has too many weapons. When the Illini won, it was because Hames was off, so hitters had to keep roll shotting everything. That resulted in career highs in digs for multiple Illini. The difference in this coming match is that Hames is better now, so her hitters will be able to score more efficiently. Nebraska has more hitters that can score, and its defense will makes plays that Illinois’ defense can’t. Let’s all hope Hames has an off night again! But I don’t think it will. Hoping Illinois doesn’t get swept here, although it’s possible. It'll be a war if Illinois passes well and/or Nebraska's serve is off because Poulter is the one remaining setter that can mitigate Nebraska's defense. She's deceptive and can push tempo with good passing. Frankly, I'm surprised at how many Husker fans are reacting with glee that it's Illinois rather than Wisconsin that you'll be facing. IMHO Illinois is a much tougher matchup than Wisconsin. It's not just that Poulter is "deceptive and can push tempo with good passing" (true), the much more important consideration is that she's by far the best OOS setter. Nebraska thrives on serving other teams so they get OOS. This would have a much bigger impact on Wisconsin (stopping Rettke's slide and quicks) than it would on Illinois. Be careful what you wished for.

Well we have beaten Illinois in Champaign this year. 0-1 vs Sconnie.
Wisconsin is like our one bugaboo.

Hopefully Nebraska plays better than they did this weekend. If they play flat again I’d expect them to get swept

Cook won his first Big Ten Coach of the Year award for Wisconsin right? He probably just goes easy on them

There's a big difference in trying to stop good sets that have a high probability of going where you think it's going opposed to stopping good sets that could be distributed anywhere and quickly. Even with Poulter, Illinois would much prefer being in system even if she's good out of system.

So far, when in doubt, I pick the team with the best player. That is Poulter, so I will pick Illinois in 4

huskerjen, I agree with your last post that no team, including Illinois, likes to be OOS. My main point was that getting Wisconsin OOS is much more significant than getting Illinois OOS. Disrupting Wisconsin's middles (and especially Rettke) is much more impactful on beating them. Rettke's thundering kills not only win easy points but they also free up and jack up their pins. Duello, Loberg, and Haggerty are much more aggressive and effective when Rettke and Williams are bombing away.

But back to this matchup I like Illinois in 5 Going to be very good match Wouldn’t mind seeing Illinois win so i can watch them lose to former coach after the bus they through him under after the Wisconsin match.

K well if that were to happen let's all be honest and admit they wouldn't be losing to Hambly. They be losing to Stanford's talent. Hambly doesn't have to coach talent. Idk if Elliot could even screw Stanford up.

Be careful what you wished for. I second this. I would way rather play Wisconsin. Poulter can rip apart a defense regardless of the passing because the sets she puts up even with sub-par passing are incredible. Hilley really doesn't impress me and honestly I wanted another shot as Wisconsin. I think Nebraska's inability to have dominating results over Wisconsin isn't really due to the Badgers-Nebraska just tends to always play horrific against them. I don't see that happening in the FF with Foecke being a senior. I also don't like how Quade can just attack from anywhere. She's tough to match up against. Rettke is at least predictable she's just tall and hard to stop. But I'd trust Stivrins.. With that all said, I am happy Illinois is in the FF. Not because I wanted them as a match-up for Nebraska, but I'm happy for Poulter and Tamas. I've been on their bandwagon all year (except for 2 times of course). I also feel like the Illinois fans don't bash the Huskers like everyone else. They're a good fan base.
