True. Sun and Stivrins are better than Bastianelli/Fleming/Prince. Calli/Sweet and Cooney look like cancel each other out. Not very productive, but good for a handful of kills. The X factor here is how Hames will do. Comparing apples to apples: Bastianelli, .352, 1.40 bps Fleming, .431, 1.04 bps Strivins, .409, 1.22 bps Schearzenbach, .299, 1.38 Cooney, .281, .61 bps Sweet, .205, .80 bps Bastianelli and Stivrins are similar in number of swings, Fleming and Schwarzenbach are also similar. % don’t tell it all, number of kills and swings changes perception somewhat. Bastianelli 2.30 kps hitting .352 (588 swings) Stivrins 2.33 kps hitting .411 (545 swings) Fleming 1.69 kps hitting .431 (383 swings) Schwarzenbach 1.11 kps hitting .299 (334 swings)

But to state Nebraska’s middles and opposite are better is incorrect. Not arguing Illinois’ are better but it’s a stretch to say Nebraska’s are better.

Ask Wisconsin what it’s like to play Illinois for the third time in a season after having won the first meeting. Orange & Blue 3-1. Illinois is pretty bad defensive team NCAA rank in opponents' hitting percentage: 12 Illinois .156 48 Wisconsin .171 So what kind of defensive team is Wisconsin?

Watched both match-ups. I think Illinois has elevated its game from the first match but so has Nebraska. I think for Illinois needs to manage the pressure of the moment. The crowd will be red heavy and raucous. If Illinois plays their game I think they can win this in 4. Nebraska I think needs to elevate their game a little they didn’t do anything too spectacular in the Minnesota Regional they just played steady and both their opponents pressed too hard and imploded. If Sweet can continue her solid play and Hames remembers her middles this could easily go in favor of the Huskers. Who I think will win and who I want to win is Illinois. Poulter is the best setter in the Final Four. I think her and Quade get it done should be a good match. Poulter is probably the best setter in the final four this year, and Quade rocks and gets it done. I just think Foecke and company are more athletic and explosive, and executes the game plan very effectively, period. Plus the fact that Tamas will be out coached. For the love of God he just left Nebraska two years ago. Not going to underestimate Coach Cook. He is one of the best coaches in the game.

Nobody in their right mind would ever underestimate Cook. He will certainly have his team ready. As an Illinois grad and fan, I am excited for this Illini team and coaching staff. I love Hambly, but Tamas without question relates to this group of players better than he did and gets them to play harder and smarter. Poulter will need to be more offensive minded than she was against Wisconsin to keep Nebraska's defense a little off balance. I see an epic match coming!

It isn't even close. And that's not a knock on anyone else. Poulter is that good. And is definitively better than the others.

Looking at this as a hard-working blue collar team on the rise versus a perennially pedigreed team. We are all incredibly fortunate to be in the B1G and to continually be challenged by the likes of Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, PSU, and know that other teams will test us. Each team makes their conference opponents tougher. Instead of fighting about it, we could honor all of these young women, on every team, who sacrifice and work so damn hard and provide us with vivid examples of excellence every time they take the court! Go Illini! Go Big Ten!

I understand that Nebraska will have great fan support in Minneapolis, but why is everyone assuming that Illinois won't have a lot of loud fans there as well?

I’m sure Illinois will have quite a few fans at the match but Nebraska for along time has been known for having a really good following at away matches. There has been times in the past that Nebraska may have about as many if not more fans at a school who doesn’t have a very large following of their own. I would be at the match myself but with the grounds crew I work for I wouldn’t be able to take the time off because we are very short-handed & I must be available in case there is snow that has to be taken care off.

Illinois is pretty bad defensive team Badgers outhit Illinois .347 to .294 And Badgers out scored Illinois in the over 500 points they played this year Also outscored Nebraska but that’s becoming a common theme last few years. Doesn’t matter who wins this game as either will get smoked by Stanford. Yeah, nothing like a bad defense to help you to a 32-3 record and a #2 RPI and a #3 seed and a current winning streak, I believe, of 17 straight. Seems like - and guess I should go back and see if I have the "important" stats correct - but I also seem to recall, regardless of the numbers, the Illini won 2 of the 3 matches against Wisconsin. It looks like he edited this post, since I couldn't find the original comment about Illinois being a "pretty bad defensive team." I didn't follow his logic, since he points out that Wisconsin also outscored Nebraska and everyone seems to agree that Nebraska is a great defensive team.

I understand it's a different sport, but the last time Illinois went to the Final Four in basketball they had 30,000 fans show up for the *practice* in Indianapolis. We'll see what happens, but I can tell you that people in Illinois are very excited about this volleyball team and Minneapolis isn't that far away. Nebraska will most-likely have more fans because they have such a large, devoted fan base, but I don't think Illinois will feel like they're playing a true road game. I expect their fans to represent well

All this comparison is wonderful but everything flies out the window when it comes to the final four. There are so many storylines for ILLINOIS. Chris Tamas playing against his old team, Illinois possibly playing against its old coach, JP vs Nicklin Hames ( both playing in their first final four), Defending National Champs vs the Underdogs. Pressure is on NEB for sure. I think Coach Tamas will have us prepped and ready to go.

What bus do you speak of? I missed the post match press conference Curious about that bus myself. If anything, it was the other way around. Coach in question claimed that the Stanford setter is the best he's ever seen. Dishonors a remarkable Illinois setter. Coach in question told the ESPN announcers that he recruited every single player on the Illinois team. Current Illinois coach saw the holes and has worked hard to bring in a select few new players and establish balance at every position. Coach in question told same announcers that he told administration that Illinois team would go deep in a few years. Only correct because the current coach developed every single player, brought in needed recruits, surrounded himself with an amazing coaching staff, worked to make the team confident in themselves, ran focused practices, straightened out some neglected problems, put together effective game plans, and was very proactive in every aspect of coaching. Don't talk about coach in question getting thrown under the bus. Stanford is a great spot for him, where "finished" recruits come to him. Illinois has had to rebuild through intelligence, hard work, player development, and commitment. Used to greatly admire the coach who claims he has the best setter he's ever seen. Now, not so sure. Although I wish him no misfortune, disappointed because thought he was more gracious and had more integrity. Coach in questions came off sounding like a tool. Backhanded way of saying I am responsible for where ILLINOIS is today.

I’m sure he didn’t tell the ESPN commentators that he recruited every player on the team. I’m sure they just assumed, given they don’t know anything about the teams until they prep for the broadcast. Gray does do things that JP doesn’t, so it’s fair for him to claim that Gray is great. He’s not ungracious at all. Even if Tamas weren’t the coach, they would have had a great year this year, even if Jerritt Elliott were the coach. That’s how talent works.
