Another scholarship to play with. Always a positive side to things. Wonder if you might pick up one of Minnesota's 15 outside hitters as a transfer. 😉

Front row depth for 2019:
OH: Haggerty Loberg Duello Gregorski (likely medical redshirt)
MB: Rettke Hart Shanahan Wohlert Gorum (possible developmental redshirt)
RS: Duello Hart Wohlert Gorum
I'll be interested to see how Wohlert develops this spring. I wonder what it would take to move Duello back to the left and put Hart or Wohlert on the right.
Of course, we could land an OH transfer. Which would be nice. We'll have to see how the spring plays out, who goes to USA tryouts, etc.

Perhaps there is a transfer already in the mix prior to Whalen's official statement.

Who, aside from the assistant coach, calls it Middle Blocker U? I think it's a play on the fact that football pundits call Wisconsin "Running Back U" because we've had a ton of All-American running backs.

Off the top of my head, AA Middle Blockers since 2000: Livingston (3x?) Shaw Reineke Nelson x2 Rettke x2 Williams 1 + several HM.
I'm not sure I'd call it MB U, but in the Sheffield era alone, yes, it definitely is.

I mean... ...Stanford (Ajanaku, Lutz, Alade, Fitzmorris, Wopat)... ...Penn State (Washington, Hord, Gray, Grant, Whitney, Slay)... ...Florida (Alhassan, Kramer, Mann, Antwi)... ...Nebraska (Rolfzen, Stivrins, Holman, Haggerty)... ...Minnesota (Pittman, Lohman, Tapp, Tapp, Dixon)... ...Texas (Butler, McCage, Ogbogu, Bell, Johnson)...?

I think we are in agreement that it's hyperbole. For a few years 2008-12, they barely had enough MB to fill the roster (which is to say, they had 2). But to have 3 AA MB in the last 3 years is a big turnaround; however I don't offhand see one other than Rettke in the next 3-4 years, barring some tremendous improvements from the current roster and incoming recruits.

Wasn’t hart being hailed as being better than tiona in the pre season? Certain posters were suggesting that Hart should play and Williams should sit. That didn’t wind up happening. Hart has a ton of potential. Williams has better court vision, which comes with having 3 more years of collegiate play and a head start in prep. Hart will get there, and quickly, I’m sure. I predict she and Rettke as starting middles next year, with Duello on the right. Hoping we get an OH transfer to push Loberg & Haggerty, but not holding my breath.

I know I have been slightly critical of Hart in the past, but that was only relative to Tionna with her speed and experience. I could totally understand why Sheff preferred to play Williams. However, I *think* Hart will step up this year. She's actually good and MB is more her natural position. She just has to get more comfortable and more aware, which will come. Also, she is not constantly hampered by injuries, that we know of at least.
