I've been watching Badger volleyball matches for almost 30 years now. I've only missed a handful of matches in that 30 year span. That 2000 team was special and I'm 100% convinced that if Claudia Rodriguez doesn't get hurt, they win the National Championship that year. That was a special team. Everyone had Nebraska winning it all from the preseason on. But we didn't have lady luck on our side that year. 2013 was special too but for different reasons. It was unexpected. It was an upstart team that might be the grittiest team we've ever had. But, in reality, Penn State was the best team that year. I actually thought our 2016 team was the most talented team we've ever fielded. They just ran into a juggernaut that was Stanford. I was actually rooting for Stanford to beat Minnesota last night and that was unusual. Once the tournament starts, I'm cheering for all the Big 10 teams and it would have been awesome to see an all Big 10 final. I knew Stanford was the better team and it would have been better for the Badgers to play Minnesota as I'm quite confident they would have won. But there is some poetic justice to playing Stanford again. Stanford upset us on our home court in 2016 and that really, really stung. If we could find a way to slay that dragon in 2019, it would make the journey all the more special. The 2019 version of the Badger team feels so different. They don't have any glaring weaknesses like the 2000 and 2013 teams did. Everybody thinks it was Stanford vs the rest of the NCAA this year. And they deserve all the accolades they have received. But something is telling me this year is different. Sheffield has this team well prepared. They believe. They are ridiculously talented. So is Stanford. This has all the makings of an epic 5 set match where one key play will likely decide the match. And it will likely come from an unlikely source. I'm saying it comes from Duello...perhaps a key block on Plumber and the Badgers take it 16-14 in the 5th and deciding set. Fingers crossed. Now let's go out there an "break down that door" like Sheffield said! Agree on much of this. I would probably say 2019 Badgers are more talented than 2016 though. Correct. I was referencing everything that lead up to the point we are at right now. I believe this 2019 team is the best team we've ever had. Let's hope that holds true on Saturday.

I just noticed this but why was Whopert not on the bench? Gorum isn't either. And, Whitehead and (I think) Gregorski aren't dressed. There are limits of how many players/coaches you can have on the bench in a tournament match. I think it's 25 players, coaches, support staff (Thanks Khat Bell for allowing me to learn this).

They can dress 15 only, and then they have limited additional space on the bench. With the coaches and support staff, we only have room for 2 more players to be “support staff.”

There were a few of the players not dressed and sitting in the first row of the bleachers during the Regional round matches in Madison too.

I still think the Badgers can take it up a notch for the final. I didn’t think any of the “O-Line” had their best night, but they weren’t by all means bad at all. I also know Duello can bring a little more.
Shut down Plummer. Keep the ball away from Hentz. Things will look good

You mentioned Claudia Rodriguez going down in 2000 really hurt the UW cause. The 2016 had Carlini twist an ankle. She played through it but was not at 100%.

Damn you Ali Frantti ANd PSU never once mentioned Carlini's injury in their recap and made it sound like they persevered entirely on their own strength gopsusports.com/news/2014/12/13/No_5_Women_s_Volleyball_Punches_NCAA_Semifinal_Ticket.aspx

It's poetic justice that they have to play them for the National Championship. This UW team actually has a good chance if it plays to it's potential, and doesn't get swallowed by the moment. I'm feeling oddly confident that they will provide an excellent account of themselves. +1 to each of these.

Things will look good those are the three keys exactly right there ^^ 1. get duello going 2. slow down (or better yet, shut down) plummer 3. keep the ball away from hentz (she's a machine) I think i said the same thing a couple years back when WI was at Stanford.

I got a question?
Has M.E. Dodge played in every single set of every single match in her Badger career?
How many others have done that in 4 years in Sheffield era? Nelson and Bates?
I think it was Mr. Dodge that said nice things about the fans last night. So great!
I couldn't really see around the tubas.

From the Stats on the team website, looks like she missed a couple of matches in each of her first 2 years
