Age is correlated, sure. But the increase of estrogen levels at the end of puberty is what fuses the growth plates. Girls' growth plates generally fuse about 2 years after menarche. Since that roughly tracks with age, then it's a good predictor, but it does vary. I will say that if this kid is only 5-8, she'll maaaaaybe get another inch or two if she's lucky, but she's not gonna be a 6-footer. Of course it varies and that was acknowledged, but they are more than remotely statistically related. No one said there weren't other statistically significant factors, but my guess is age contributes most to this regression. Additionally, statistics clearly show that little growth, by and large, occurs after the age of 16. I think we can both agree to what I emphasized above. This kid likely isn't getting any taller.

In other news: Zero Badgers are attending USA tryouts this spring. I'm assuming it's because of the team's trip to Italy this summer.

It could be that a lot of the girls were banged up by the end of the season.

I can split hairs but please don't do the same. Case of do as I say, not as I do? Hmmmm.

Except that the only time your commitment is binding is the LOI. No one is arguing whether it is binding or not. You are trying to push your personal terminology which is different from the NCAA and recruiting within college sports. Whether you personally want to acknowledge or not, a verbal is still a non-binding verbal commitment.

Awesome article on Bonnie Oleson, who has done PA for Badger women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, and softball, for the last couple of decades. I love the enthusiasm with which she calls games. She makes the Field House experience special. She volunteered to do PA for a state high school tournament match last year, and the girls were so excited to have the Badgers’ announcer call in their game. It was great. Thanks, Bonnie!

Bonnie (I think) was announcing at a track meet at the Shell back during the ipod craze. She said "If you've lost your ipod we have it. Judging from the playlist, it belongs to a woman or a man with very good taste in music".

I think she's a perfect announcer. I can't stand going to the WWE-announced events. I like going to Marquette, but it is over the top. We have a special group with our PA and broadcast team. Even the backup guy, Adam?, did a solid job for Jon a few times.

Really great move by that member of Coach Cook's staff. It's an innovation that's helped grow the sport and set Badgers VB apart. Hard to express, but Bonnie is like a breath of fresh air and establishes such an optimistic/progressive tone . Along with the amazing athletes, she helps make you feel like you are witnessing something special. Kinda like the "Let's get ready to rumble" guy in boxing, far as I'm concerned.

I have enough experience with kids going through this phase of life that I am willing to just wish her the best. It's a turbulent period for many, but they often turn out great in the end. Fritz seems like a good coach. Good luck to her!

Yup. I hope whatever it was that went down is a good learning experience for all, and that Kuck moves forward and has a great life.

I dug through the thread, but do we know if there are 2 home tourneys?
I know there is Acc challenge in Chapel Hill, then Louisville, Marquette and Baylor. Do we know the other matchups?
