Playing first will give your players more time to recover for the next day’s game. And time to watch the game of your possible opponent. I actually have always thought this. Seems like 7pm and 9pm for regionals where home team plays first is most ideal. I recall in 2011 that Coach Elliott was not happy about #1 Texas having to play #16 Kentucky in Lexington at like 7 PM Friday night, and then have to play in the regional final against #8/9 UCLA (who had beaten Penn State in the earlier afternoon match) at like 1 or 2 PM on Saturday (very short turn around time). NCAA told him that because Kentucky was hosting, it was common for the host school to play the second regional semi-final for attendance reasons.
Looks like now it depends on which matchup ESPNU (TV) wants to air, versus which one they want to stream on ESPN3.com.

They are showing the games with the four host teams which I believe is what they also did last year. It's obvious the choice of games and the game times are for TV purposes. The times are spread out during the day to allow all four games to be shown which is similar to the men's basketball tournament. I'm sure the host teams are being televised so they are showing large crowds and not the half empty arena when the games with non-host teams are being played.

The real story in our successful first two post-season matches is that Brionne Butler went blonde again with the majority of her hair . . .

i have re-watched sets 4 and 5 of the ucsb match maybe ten times meow. some great plays made by the Texas longhorns. I rewatched as well, I felt so bad for Claire when she had that double called! She had three amazing digs and you knew she felt awful. She really has come into her own during her senior season, which is nice. You can tell that her hands/placement have improved tremendously as the season has progressed. Looking forward to watching Iosia fill that role v nicely next season. Or maybe even taking over the libero spot, who knows?!

Claire was "kicking" herself over "blowing the set" (blowing the set were her words).

Does anybody know the lady who sits on the floor behind the service line who goes to the trouble to bring a white mask to the match and who puts it over her face when she thinks she's going to be on camera? Does anybody know what the joke is supposed to be? Or why she does it? Or if she thinks it's funny? And if so why she thinks it's funny?

This has been asked before and haven't seen anyone respond with any info. I think we are all clueless on this one. However I am pretty sure it's the same lady that has set in that seat (or that area) for years. I'm guessing she either got tired of being on camera all the time when players are about to serve or finds it humorous to do. It does get your attention.

It's a little old lady confined to a wheelchair. Let it go.

When I'm feeling charitable I tell myself to just think of it as part of the Keep Austin Weird theme.
