I overlooked that Skylar Fields is listed as "OPP", and not "OH" (like Logan and Micaya). as did I very intrestingš¤š¤š¤ as far as I know she was an outside most of her club career. It seems unavoidable at this point that molly will red shirt. From what I saw during the spring games Butler and Oneal should be the starters... but time will tell?

Iāll first say that I donāt think a Phillips redshirt is a big deal. But I do think that this is a pretty unique year for us to try a 6-2. I 100% understand that this has not been super successful in the past, but I do feel like this year will be a little different just because of our personnel.

I was thinking about this yesterday and it wouldnāt be that bad honestly. She would redshirt this year then the next year White would be gone and Fields would move to the outside. The opposite position would be open where I think ( from watching a little bit of her at opposite) Phillips could be successful.

Well Jerrit has set a precedent by having Brionne redshirt, then the next year having O'Neal redshirt as well. I mean it's amazing that he can convince them to wait...and Phillips is no dummy and can see that probably happening to her unless one of the middles gets injured.

Feels like deja vu, but we seem awfully thin at the pins with just Micaya, Logan, and Skylar; last season, we at least had Luketic as a very good 4th option for 3/4 of the season. Agbaji is still listed as a middle blocker, and while she can sub in at the pins in a pinch, it's a huge drop-off from the starters.
So, who is the fourth pin? Who is the third middle? Scary if Agbaji is slated to be both. So, unless we get a late addition, I can't see Molly redshirting, especially since she might be a better option than Agbaji. Don't want to sell Molly short; perhaps she opens some eyes come August camp and find her way onto the court sooner rather than later.

Just deleted my post because you said exactly what I was trying to in much better words. Thanks!

Skylar has played opposite whenever she plays for the USA programs. I would prefer to see molly move to opposite and Skylar and Logan playing outside with Madison Williams getting a redshirt year. But knowing how Elliot has been I donāt see that happening. I think itāll be good for molly to have a redshirt year and I really see her like another Yazzie tbh.

As many seasons as I've followed the Texas roster, rarely is any player ever listed as an Opposite hitter. Went back to look at past rosters, and no one has had that position listed consistently; though Nwanebu had it, but it was only used her first season at Texas. Back in the day, the "Utility" label seemed a favorite of Elliott's for players like Lauren Paolini and Jen Doris, and maybe others I forget.
I always keep an open mind to the possibility of running a 6-2, but this season I don't see us having enough hitters; well, we do, but with no backups. One ankle injury or concussion to any hitter, and then I'd say we are forced to revert back to a 5-1.

Congrats to both and this has to be a good experience for Butler. Should be good for her development to be around an experienced Longhorn ex in Adams.

Do you think Elliot will allow Skylar and Logan to play all 6 rotations? I know heās never done this but considering Skylarās USA experience on the right and Loganās development...?

I think yes for Logan but no for Skylar. We have enough firepower if Logan and Micaya are both playing backrow. I think we need the extra passing though that a DS for Skylar would bring.

I hope he tries it with weaker competition just to get experience. Texas has a tendency to āplay downā with weaker opponents when we feel comfortable with a win, but maybe the added pressure by mixing things up could keep them focused.
