I agree, 1 lost to Stanford in a 5 set match I'd say there's a 5% chance Texas gets past three games. Really, 5%?

I'd say there's a 5% chance Texas gets past three games. Really, 5%? Yes. Texas has a freshman right side and middle and their passing has not improved...at all. Their floor defense is not good enough. Without improved passing, Texas woes continue against Stanford. Stanford loses little and have the best freshman class...by far. They upgrade at OH and should be decent in the middle, which by the way they won't need.

I know it was only a scrimmage but I was actually surprised with the passing of the team. You could see clear improvements from Micaya, Logan, and even Sydney. I saw one point where Hahn got horribly aced and came back the next point with a perfect 3 pass. That's the kind of resilience this team has been missing. I don't want to read into it too much as maybe the serving wasn't that tough but am curious to get everyone's thoughts. It's clear that we need a lot of work in the transition game. There were too many times when they would get a good up and the team wasn't able to capitalize. I think a lot of it was a location thing, too many people in the right side of the court, which creates additional uncertainty. It's clear that Fields is going to be amazing. If she has a great season, I don't see how she isn't in the running for NFOY. I'm sure Kipp will also be in the running. Back here with an edit because I forgot to add how much I love Phillips as a player. You can just tell that she belongs on the court. I really really hope she finds a way because you can tell that she's a player and is someone who's bought in. I really really really hope Shook works out for the team. I think the better the passing is, the better Shook can/will perform. I don't think she's that great on the run which is why the passing really needs to be more consistent. I would also hope that her losing the starting spot has lit a fire under her to get after it. I still think (in the long-term) that she provides the team with the best opportunity to be a championship-caliber team. I'm hoping the improvement from Logan in the back row will allow for a better competition between Hahn and Rounsville for the other DS position. I think that would elevate the level of play from everyone. The first few weeks of the season are going to be a gauntlet but I'm hoping they come out with 1 loss (Stanford). Hook 'Em! I agree, 1 lost to Stanford in a 5 set match Wishful thinking, i just want Texas to be more competitive.

Stanford will sweep a lot of teams, especially at home.
Back in the second match of the 2016 season, defending national champion and #1 ranked Nebraska throttled Texas in a beat-down sweep in Eugene, OR. Somehow, miraculously even, Texas picked itself up, played the rest of the season, made changes to its starting lineup, improved in all areas of the game, and returned the sweep by beating #1 seed Nebraska in the national semi-finals. Who'd have thought that after one scrimmage that season?
You might as well return your season tickets now . . .

For those clamoring for our pin-hitters to play all 6-rotations, don't forget that backrow specialist, Nalani Iosia joins the squad in 2020, and most likely as a scholarship player. With her and Petersen on the roster, be prepared for both of them playing a lot in the back row over at least one of the pin hitters; plus, Iosia has a very good jump serve.

Maybe it was just me, but I honestly thought it looked like our passing was significantly better. We definitely struggled with short serves, but outside of that we were pretty consistent!

REALLY? Rounsaville and Hahn are awful DSs. No one would trade their defenders for either one of those two. Passing is not one of those skills one significantly develops if one has been trained in passing and doing so for many years. Logan and White? Reps are likely to improve their passing. DSs? Not likely.

Reps, good ones, will most likely benefit the athlete going through that training.

We don’t know how much improvement, if any, Hahn and Rounsaville has made in the offseason, in which we’ll find out once season progresses. They are not awful players.

If you're not supremely skilled at passing after that many years of concentrated work on your trade, you're never going to be. Difference is OHs who aren't training as intently as DSs.

Reality is you Texas fans have no sense of reality. If you haven't realized your team's weakness and recruitings continuing failure to fix that weakness, you're not very bright. Passing and defense have been major issues for Texas and the reason they don't have more NCs. Rounsaville and Hahn are not very good passers. Period. Mark my words...or don't. I really couldn't care less.
