Could still be precautionary. I’d imagine if she isn’t practicing by next week, that’s a concern, but there’s still over a week until the norther Iowa Match

I wonder who gets the starting nod for setter. If passing continues to be inconsistent this year, Jenna is the better setter and she deserves to start. If passing has improved, I’d say give Ashley the start. Ashley starts to really struggle putting up hittable sets when she’s on the run.

If Ashley gets healthy and gets the start at setter, I wouldn’t mind Seeing what Jhenna can do as a DS. Wouldn’t hurt to see how she stacks up against the other two.

During the middle of last season while Shook was still setting, Jhenna would come in as a serving subsitute for Micaya when she was struggling getting her serve in play. I don't recall who did that once Jhenna became the full time setter. Who would sub in for Micaya this season if a serving specialist was needed and Jhenna was setting? Shook? Molly Phillips does have a pretty good serve, but not sure how that would work out in other areas that half rotation.

I'm just tickled that they could get the Petersen family reunion worked out (aka the UNI@UT match). Yes, the home team will likely win (UNI usually manages to pull off some big early season upsets though, so who knows), but it should still be fun.
I think the Longhorns may be coming to Cedar Falls (i.e. playing at UNI) for a match next season, too. Of course, things may change between now and then.

I only remember because when Micaya thought she hurt her foot, Shook stayed in and it was a giant cluster.

Just an opinion, but if Shook doesn't play in Saturday's scrimmage against LSU, then I doubt she's the starter against Northern Iowa to open the season.

There’s been videos where Shook is mobile and taking setting reps so I imagine it is just a precautionary measure if she is not in still on Friday.

If Shook does get the start it would be awesome to see Gabriel come serve for Micaya every time and just move Hahn/Rounsaville to middle back for that half rotation. That is, assuming that Logan is still L1 and Micaya L2. I think that would really help our serving woes.

In the post scrimmage interview, Micaya made it sound like they’d been working on her serve and shifting the position. I don’t see them abandoning it now (even though it was still high error). I guess the question mark is where do you put Jhenna if Shook starts, but I see her as a fighter who will finder way onto the court somehow. That 5-2 might be the answer...

It's reasonable that there would be a return match at UNI next season. Particularly for out of state recruits, most coaches try to play one game near their home during their career.

If Shook starts (any set), don't we have to have Gabriel on the bench in case she has to come in to sub for Shook if she's struggling in that particular set? I'm not the best at the rotations/substitutions, but if Jhenna is being used as a serving sub for Micaya in a particular set, she can't also sub in for Shook at any time during that set. It's like we burned the opportunity to make a setter for setter sub; would have to wait for the next set.

I'm surprised more Texas fans don't want to see Gabriel take over a Hahn/Rounsaville DS spot if she's not setting. I feel like you got to give her a spot on the court, either she's DS 3 rotations or setting.

It was my understanding that Gabriel didn't beat out Hahn nor Rounsaville at any point last season for a DS spot. Seems like we had this same discussion when a handful of posters were crying for Olivia Zelon to play.
I'm sure things will shake out for the best as the season unfolds. But, why put your (potential) backup setter as a DS if she's not the best backrow option? The only time that makes sense to me is if subs in for the Opposite in case she needs to rotate in the setter spot.
When Nicole Dalton (backup setter) was playing backrow a few seasons ago, it was as a sub for the Opposite, I believe. But, she had great ball control.
