corch talked about having 6-rotation players. he mentioned that having 3 would be incredible. if logan plays 6 rotations, wouldn't Texas have 3? logan, micaya, and jhenna (setter position) i feel like i didn't quite understand that part. I assumed he meant on the pins. I think the setter is a given. ah, thank you. that makes much more sense.
going to be so much fun to watch the team play on friday.
here we go Texas volleyball here we go

Thanks for posting the interview.
I think it is interesting that team captains have not emerged yet. And maybe a little telling that none of the seniors were named as players in the mix for those spots.
For those who pay more attention than me, are there future six rotation players that come to mind in the recruit pipeline once White graduates? Does Fields have history playing all the way around?

But yes I’m hopeful she’ll get to play all the way around as the season progresses.

I would be shocked if she went 6 rotations while at Texas, let alone this year, unless one of the outsides (or both) need to be DSed. We don’t need mediocre defense and a 3rd backrow option as much as we need solid passing and defense.

Not too many surprises with his comments.
No reason to not believe what he says in regards to Asjia O'Neal sometimes dominating in practice; but, he also noted that she has her (redshirt) freshman moments. Then again, which blockers is she hitting against on the other side of the net? We need her to really play with confidence and physicality.
It will take Jhenna really struggling for Shook to win the job back. Just all the lost practice time so far in August, the two scrimmages, and this weekend's upcoming two matches are gonna allow Jhenna to build connections with the newcomers and really distance herself from Shook, IMO.
Pretty sure Logan started out last season's first match against Oregon playing all 6 rotations; she for sure served, but recall her playing more than that 1/2 rotation in the back row. Definitely need her serving tough like she did last season.
I did hear Coach E mention senior Orie Agbaji first when asked about leaders/captains. She may not play much, but I think she is mature on and off the court and we don't have many upperclassmen. Very surprised Micaya was not mentioned at all for that; but, not all elite players are not vocal leaders.
Skylar serving is required, IMO. Hope she can be consistent and help us with an improved serving game.
Wonder who will serve between Brionne and Asjia; figure I will be Brionne. I think Molly has the best serve of all our MB's.
Could be that both Hahn and Rounsaville get the chance to compete to be the sub for Skylar; but, only Hahn will be given the chance to serve, IMO, if Skylar struggles serving. I believe it was Hahn who has subbed for the Opposite the last few years; so, figure that's her area of the court where she has more experience over Rounsaville. That will be important when Jhenna is blocking in the front row.

A player like her will have the choice to play professionally and with little match play back row experience, that will harm her development and prospects beyond college. Not comparing Skylar to Destinee Hooker, but it really helped Destinee to get back row experience to add to her game after college.

Same for Juliann Faucette and Haley Eckerman; they eventually did, especially as juniors and seniors.
The objective is to win each match; can't do that if your freshman pin hitter is struggling with her back row play and you refuse to sub in a more capable DS.

I understand. You stated you would be shocked if she played backrow during her career at Texas. I’m stating that would be a shame and doesn’t serve her well beyond college.

Very excited for the upcoming season! I do have a question / request. It bothers me when so many of the very best seats (31-34, 41-44) are empty for the matches. Looks bad. I know that those are season tickets and not everyone can attend every game. But it would be nice if those who had those tickets and who knew they could not make the match would make those tickets available to others so (1) someone would get a chance to have great seats and (2) those seats would not be so visibly empty. So -- my request is that if anyone is in that position, please consider publicizing that fact and making your seats available to others! Thanks

I think she will be able to play professionally regardless. I mean how often are we talking now about the defensive prowess of the current USA opposites? We just need someone who can bail us out of system, not someone who played 6 rotations in college.

When was the last time a pin hitter on the national team (A,B,C teams) didn’t have backrow experience coming out of college? I keep talking about it, because I think it’s so important we have availability of a legitimate offensive threat from backrow especially when passing sucks. We’ll see what happens! Excited!
