Barring any injuries, I’d be shocked if we didn’t see Fields and one of either O’Neal/Phillips slide in to the spots vacated by graduation. I don’t really see any other lineup changes unless we snag a transfer in the offseason. It is nice that our pins have such flexibility if we needed a lineup change though! On the note of transfer, with Luketic gone, we now have an open scholarship. There have been 2 high level transfers already committed elsewhere. Does anyone think we will try and snag another setter if one comes available? Or do we look for a DS transfer since a few of us were not greatly impressed by our backrow play? Or do we give it to a walk-on for a year? Not sure if this is correct, but I think Gilbert is a walk-on. My first thought is that she will be put on scholarship.

Yes Gabriel. That's what I get for reading two sites at once and we were just talking about past Texas QBs who had transferred.

They did that for one rotation within the same set, I believe.
What I'm proposing is a different starting position for a set. Perhaps it's not feasible based on position responsibilities.
I think they usually did it for a point or two. Didn't pass close enough attention to it to see if it was always on the same rotation, though I think several times it was when YBG subbed back in. Yes, they switched pin positions in a specific rotation during each set. But, the starting rotation was YBG at Opposite and Eggleston at OH.

Or do we give it to a walk-on for a year? Luketic's departure does open a scholarship, or so it appears.
We typically only award on backrow player a scholarship, and it's the Libero (Petersen for the next 3 seasons, hopefully). So, if any backrow player decides to transfer to Texas, it's going to be as walk-on (like Hahn and Rounsaville).
Assuming Shook stays at Texas, and Gabriel is awarded a well-deserved scholarship, then setter Riley Fisbeck might be the odd man out (scholarship-wise). Just my opinion, but Fisbeck was offered a scholarship very late in the process (when it was determined that Chloe Collins would move on after Fall 2016, and there was no other setter on the roster to set the team in Spring 2017 practices).
The players I believe will be on scholarship (10) for the coming season include: White, Agbaji, Shook, Butler, Eggleston, Petersen, Gabriel, O'Neal, Fields and Phillips. Not sure about Fisbeck or Westerlund. So, time will tell if there are any scholarship roster additions; hopefully, no departures.

Second, DS's usually don't rate a scholarship, unless they're a libero and even then not always.
Third, if you offer a transfer DS a scholarship, it would be a big diss to the two 3-year DS's that have been with the program so far.

Speaking of the 2019 schedule, I sure hope we increase the number of non-conference matches we play; we've been on the low end compared to other programs the last few years.
I believe we owe Minnesota a match in Minneapolis as they came to Austin in 2017. Probably playing in Lexington as UK played in Austin this past season.
Don't believe the VERT Challenge is continuing. Believe our days of playing Nebraska in non-conference are over for a while.
Anxious to see if we do that home-and-away series with Stanford again; even losing both matches definitely helped our RPI.
Hoping we get to play Florida again; always a fun matchup with the Gators.
We used to travel to Hawaii every 4 years or so; but, that stopped recently. Maybe a return to Hawaii for Jhenna Gabriel will be in order.
Teams in the state of Texas had very good seasons last year. Assuming those programs are projected to be at the same level this season, would like us to bring in some teams like SFA, Rice, SMU, etc. Probably hosting Texas State and UTSA again; maybe UTRGV.

Yes.
Now that Matthew McConaughey sat on the bench with the men's hoopsters against OU on Saturday night, softball and volleyball players are now tweeting at him to come make an appearance at their games, too.
